Does anyone know if Dr. Mcginty's practice do lap band procedures instead of just the bypass?  I went looking on the website and i don't see anything having to do with lapband.  I'm new to all this so i may be wording things incorrectly.

If I recall from meeting him they do but it's not their major procedure. Have you met with Dr Roslin from Lenox Hill Hospital? He was my surgeon and does all the procedures & is amazing!!

Also, St. Luke's is not a Center of Excellence.  If you want Lap Band, you might also want to check out the NYU program.  Dr. Ren and Dr. Fielding are like the leading WLS surgeons in the LAP Band.   good luck! http://thinforlife.med.nyu.edu/

If possible see more than one surgeon I saw three before I went with Dr Roslin. All the other doctors pushed me to the lapband. I have PCOS and wanted to be sure which procedure was the best option. In research I found that the results with my having PCOS and going with the gastric bypass.  WIth whomever you chose ask for their stats, number of deaths, complications, successes, etc.... You can even ask to speak to previous patients to get their opinions on the doctors. I had the three doctors tell me there was no way my insurance would approve me without a 6 month waiting period--this was SO not true!! My surgeon submitted with the most complete and time consuming paperwork but I had my insurance approval within 72 hours of the paperwork being submitted to insurance.  (I then called the previous doctors to tell them that.) RESEARCH was the key for me, I hate thinking if I'd gone with what NYU doctors had told me as "gospel" when it was so far from the truth. All the best, Teresa

HI guys thanx for the fast responses.  TeresaNYC i'll check Dr. Roslin out.  I have an appt w/ Dr. Mcginty in 2 weeks as well as the seminar.  They had orginally given me an appt w/ Dr. Koshi, but I found out yesterday he's not in my network.  I was leaning towards Dr. Herron, hear a lot good things about him.  I emailed him and he told me that the 6 months supervised diet wasn't necessarily needed for UHC, he looks like he knows what he's talking about.  I called this morning and left a message to set up an appt and no one has called me back yet.  It doesn't look good them not returning messages. Both of these docs do the lap band procedure.  TeresaNYC how is Dr. Roslin's office staff? speed of apts etc.

Ok, I just called UHC and neither Dr. Roslin nor Dr. Herron are in network.  So i'm going to go see Dr. Mcginty in the meantime.
