Ketosis Strips?

So I went to the pharmacy last night and got some of those strips to test your urine to see if your in Ketosis or not. I followed the directions but how exactly do these work, the darker it turns the more Ketosis your in?  And if its darkest is that the best? All it said was to put the strip into the urine sample for 15 seconds and then compare the color to the colors on the bottle. Some insight please. Is it good to be in the darkest purple color? I read online that being in dark purple could be a sign of dehydration? Is ketosis dangerous for the body? I think your supposed to test first thing in the morning, I did it at night. Hmmmmmmmmmmm Kali

I did the ketosis tests when I was doing Atkins diet several years ago. The higher the concentration of ketones in the urine, the more purple the sticks will turn.  Ketosis  means that our bodies are using fat for energy. When people eat less carbohydrates, their bodies turn to fat for energy, so it makes sense that more ketones are generated.  Yes I remember you should do the test first thing in the morning. Maybe you should check with  your doctor.

I understand that the higher concentration, the more purple the sticks will be. But is that what we want, the highest concentration? That's what I am confused about. Kali

Yes if you want to be in ketosis.  Just wondering why you want to do this.  Are you strictly eating only protein and fats? No carbs at all?  Curious.

Well I will only be 5 weeks out this coming Wednesday so up until now I have been very limited on what I can eat. I am now starting to eat normal foods again, so I will be slowly adding some more carbs into my diet. I just wasn't too sure about the whole Ketosis thing and if it was safe etc. Not that I actual want to do it, but I realized by doing the strip that I was in this phase. Kali
