Hey folks, I am sorely in need of new eyeglasses, but am not sure if the fairly rapid loss after the surgery effect your eyes at all. Heeee, feel kind of silly asking, but I know so many other things are effected, that maybe eyesight was too? Thanks!

Hey do not feel silly hun, that is a good question. I am not sure because I do not wear them but I am sure someone else will be able to answer that. I do have to say that hubby and I ride motorcycles and I have to tell you that my helmet size changed slightly which I thought was SOOO weird! So just know that anything is possible.  I wish you all the best!

Hahahha! That IS funny Debra!  Hehehehehe....my hubby and i were at a birthday party lat yer and about 60-70 bikers came. I pointed to one pretty girl and said,  "Hon, if I can ever get slim enough to wear a leather halter top, can I have a Harley?" He responded with this big ol' grin and said, "Baby, you put on a leather halter and you can have anything you want!"  hehehehheh... maybe one day we'll meet up on a road rally!

hi Jane, I got new glasses before surgery and I JUST saw my eye doctor this month. He said that I have perfect vision with them. Even my contacts are fine which is good because I bought a year supply of daily disposable ones when I was pre-op and I still have about half left! Hope that helps....good luck! -Karen

Hey Jane - The only time I've heard of WLS affecting eyes directly is when you're a diabetic with high blood sugars before surgery and end up post-op with much better sugars... There might be other situations as well; I would give your surgeon's office a call, and say exactly what you said above -- :-)  Never hurts to ask! :-) Good luck! ...Nick

I asked my eye DR. the same question and was told that massive weight loss has no effect on you prescription. He also told me that you optical center (distance between the eyes) would also not change. I did however greatly reduce the size of my frames. Pat

Than you Nick, CHelle and Pate! That all makes perfect sense! Heeee...and since buying new clothes isn't too smart right now (pre-op), a new pair of glasses might be just the pck me up while I'm waiting waiting waiting on insurance verdict.  Notthat I buy glasses on a whim, as fashion accessories, but I really do need them, just wasn't sure if I should wait or not, now I am. Thanks all! You guys RAWK!
