Hey sweetie,

A girl I work with did CHANTRIX (I think is the spelling).  Have you tried that?  I believe it's a pill.  It worked for her until she went on a trip with a bunch of smokers....

Debi,Habits, especially smoking are very hard to change. You have to try many times to succeed. Keep wanting to quit, cause that will help. Try different meds, if the one you tried didn't work. Try therapy, hypnosis, chewing gum. Try cutting down to the least amount tolerable before quitting.
DO NOT GIVE UP, that's the key to sucess. Keep trying and you will succeed eventually.

My brother in law who has smoked for over 30 years has quit with the help of some new prescription drug.  It said it completely took away the desire to smoke.  He still had to work on the emotional part and finding something to do with his hands, but it did work.  It may be the one you referred too.  I can't remember the name of it.  Have you asked your primary phyician if he has any samples you could have?  If they know you don't have coverage through your insurance they can sometimes help you out.    Will Dr. C do surgery on you if you have not quit?  I had him for a surgeon but smoking was never mentioned.  I know some surgeons won't do surgery unless you have stopped  smoking 6 months prior.  They are all different.    I wish you the best of luck.  I was a smoker back in my younger days and it is wicked to kick the habit.   Wish I had a magical answer for you.    Sally

Debbie , I know you can do it. You are about to embark on a new life you are going to be helthy because you will have lost weight but you are not going to be halthy if you continue to smoke , You don't want to go through this wls and then die from lung cancer. Smoking even puts you in risk of heart attacks to. clogged artires. I know I being harsh. You seem like a wonderful person and I know you can do it. Every time you feel like having a cigarette try having a sugar free sucker this way it keeps your hands busy as well as your mouth. I never was a smoker so I don't know how it would feel too have to quit. I quit Diet coke and used to have 3 a day  sometimes 4 . I did it cold turkey. I know I am comparing apples to oranges here. YOU CAN DO IT You recovery from wls will be alot easier too. Sheila

Oh Debi! Keep trying everything you cn till you hit on the one that works for you! I know how badly you want this surgery and it would be a huge blow if they said they had to cancel it because of the smoking. There are just too many risks for them to do it otherwise. Check with the doc about samples, and then go through the doc and/or drug manufacturer and see if they offer an income-eligible discount. I'm betting your doc can come up with something to make the Chantex available to you.

Debi, I smoked  3 packs a day for 25 years, I know what you are going thru,it was  the hardest thing I ever did.  It took me 2 years of chewing the gum before I could quit, then I had to get off the GUM!!!So I was addicted to the cure. Go figure, it has been 9 years since my last smoke, and I won't lie , there are days when I still miss it, sounds crazy but thats why they call it an addiction! and beileve it or not, I am a nurse!  Try not to be so hard on yourself, it took me  4 times before I mastered the demon. Keep trying if I could do it ,I have faith you will too.   Darlene
