surgery was 3 wks ago... on soft foods for a few days... baked boneless skinless chicken tonight with a lil bbq sauce.... 4 small, tiny bites... violent pains... repeated throwing up.... paged surgeon... he said get adolph's meat tenderizer; 1/4 teaspoon w/warm water (3oz), sip.... an hour later repeat.... meat tenderizer will break down chicken.... almost time to drink more. still throwing up. scared sh*tless. anyone else go through this? when will pain stop? he said i should return to liquids for 3-4 days before moving back to puree. he told me to call back anytime day or night with any issues, but well, i don't know what constitutes an issue. is this normal? help. really scared. threw up no less than 15 times including multiple times in supermarket parking lot and target parking lot. maybe 20 times total.

Man, I would be scared too!  I'm glad you have a good doc that's there for you!  I hope this passes soon, sweetie!

I had lapband 4 weeks ago.  I'm still on soft foods.  I can't imagine having chicken for another few weeks.  I have read other's posts and others can have regular foods much earlier than me, too!  The last 2 weeks I have been able to have cottage cheese, tuna fish, egg salad...1/2 cup max.  Tomorrow I can start with wheat pasta, white fish, etc.

Prayers for you sweet one.  I would do what he says and if it is not feeling better call him and let him know.  Tell him you are scared and want to be checked.  Do not be afraid to tell him.   HE sounds just as great as my doc!

BBQ Sauce may have been not good for your pouch. Can cause dumping which is vomitting also. Could have been too sweet, too much sugar. Warm water, will break down the meat and help it to digest and go through. It may be too soon for you to be on solids. Chicken is the worst because it is generally dry. Especially white meat.

Be careful with what you eat at 4 weeks post-op. Most patients are only on pureed foods. The patients inour practice are not on solid foods until 6-8 weeks. Its a gradual process. You may not be ready for solids.

How are you feeling now? I'm sorry I wasn't able to get here last night to offer my support. At (3) weeks out I was still on pureed food. I buy a low sugar bbq sauce and i'm good to go but i only eat dark meat. Do you enjoy fish, I found that fish was ALOT more user friendly (for me) then chicken was. I sometimes still  have a problem with chicken and i'm over a year out. Tofu, all fish/seafood, and steak are my mainstays.   I'm sorry you were feeling so horrid. ANDI

Hi Guys, It eventually passed. All in all, I thre up about 30 x (and it was liquid chicken; ick!).... It was so horrible. I was soooo scared and freaked out. My brother in law was over and I was just trying to make a nice dinner. So much for that. I can honestly say that I don't think I will EVER have chicken again. Ever. I dislike chicken to start with, and this sure didn't help. I have two big business trips this month and I will 100% stick with liquids when traveling. I'm not risking ANYTHING!!!

Hello,  I am not a doctor BUT I had RNY two years ago -- it took me a year to eat chicken.  Did you doctor tell you to start eating solid food?  I did ate soup the 2nd week but clear.  From the 3rd week up until I would say 8 -10 weeks I ate lentil soup, yogurt, jello, split pea soup.  NO SOLID FOOD.  You have to heal.  Those pains are dumping pains, after 8 weeks my doctor told me to try a piece of very dry toast with tuna with mayo -- so sick, just what you described.  You will be okay stay with the light food for now.

My schedule was this post op: first 9 days, liquids. After that, puree for almost two weeks... I just moved to "soft foods" the other day. Chicken was likely a BAD choice but man I chewed the little pieces until they were more than pureed.

Stupid bird. I'm back on liquids. And I have a helluva headache from all of the vomitting, and my mouth even hurts from vomitting so much. That was a HORRIBLE experience and I hope no one else ever goes through it.
