Rapid HeartRate?

I know a lot here also frequent on the main RNY board, but I figured I might post this here as well since no one over there had any inputer for me. Thanks in advance if anyone does.

Was anyone here every diagnosed before their surgery or in general with rapid heartrate or just notice their heartrate seemed to be fast at times? Example, doing something as simple as walking from the front door to the mailbox? When I was going through all the testing with the cardiologist before I was cleared by him to go ahead with my surgery all my tests came out normal, except he noticed at times my heart rate would be fast. I had to do a 24hr holter monitor. Now I suffer from anxiety which could make my heart rate go up, and I am also still considered obese so obviously the heart works harder which in turn makes the heart rate go up. I also did a event monitor for 30 days to make sure the rapid heart rate wasn't due to an arrythmia. Well I had to go for a follow up today because he wanted to see me after my surgery, and he was so backed up that I was in the exam room waiting for 40 minutes before he actually got in to see me. So of course I was getting antsy because the rooms are so small with no windows, and I was pacing. So when he examined me and took my pulse it was like 120. He waited a few min and did it again and it was down to 100. So he thinks its just my anxiety but wants to keep an eye on me, so I have to see him again in 4 weeks. Told me to keep track of my pulse at rest throughout the day, I am just nervous because he told me if it constantly stays high it could eventually I guess cause damage. So of course that has set me into panic mode. He's sending me for some blood work also. So we'll see what happens. Just curious if anyone here notices they have a fast heart rate at times?

Hello hun, I do not have the rapid heartbeat but I do have a benign arrhythmia which just means I have an extra heart beat in the lower chamber of my heart! It is a good thing to keep watch over these things but know that it should be ok as long as your on top of this! I had to do the 24 hr halter monitor myself and the bloodwork, also they did an Echo and then a Echo Stress Test just to be sure.  I also suffered from anxiety attacks but I am now learning to deal with them, seems to be working but it is a struggle at times.  I also take a suppliment called SAMe Gold, which is awesome for just a total overall well being feeling. I take 2 400mg tabs a day! I sure seems to help without the over drugged feeling that regular meds give. I am not sure if this helps any.... I wish you all the best!

Thanks for the reply Debra, I actually had a stress echo as well prior to surgery which was normal. I've been keeping track of my own pulse today and it's been 70's at rest which is totally normal. I am convinced it was so high yesterday because my doc kept me waiting forever and I was getting antsy. After my holter and my event monitor he said I have a normal rhythm, just a couple extra beats and that I beat in normal rhythm and it's just fast sometimes. Who knows, I hope as I lose more weight it comes down.  He just got me nervous yesterday when he said, if your heart is constantly high like 100 or over at rest it can cause damage, so that automatically sent me into panic mode. I see him again in 4 weeks so hopefully all is good. Question...does taking ones blood pressure automatically make the heart rate go up? Because he took my blood pressure and then directly took my pulse after that. Hmmmm Kali

Kali, Hi, I only have that prolem with my heart racingis when I just ran up the stairs oe just had intercourse LOL or running after kids. i'm sure they will figure it out what it is and you will be fine. If it was anything serious it would have come up on some of the tests you had or you would have had complications when you had your wls. Try not to get worked up about it  you will be fine. Sheila

Um, hi. Yes, I did have a faster heart beat than normal. All my tests came back normal, other than me being diabetic and having high blood pressure (but both wer ebeing controlled with meds and diet). My average hear rate was around 120-140 beats per minute. I suffer from social anxiety, so my doctor prescribed me atenelol. Its a blood bressure medecine but it also make the heart beat slower and helps ease some anxiety sometimes. After  Istarted taking it my heartrate evened out at around 96. Hope that helps.
