Help! I have no out-of-network benefits!

I just started to make phone calls to set up consutations for lap RNY. I wanted to use Dr. Garber, because my sister, Karen I, used him and had a very positive experience. After speaking with the office, and then calling Oxford, I found out that I have NO out-of-network benefits!  I do not know any doctors who are in my plan (Oxford Exclusive Metro/Freedom Netwok).  Obviously, with surgery this serious, I don't want to pick a name out of the book. Can anyone recommend a surgeon who takes this plan?  I am heartsick about this becuase it is a HUGE bump in the road.  Please help if you can. I live in Suffolk County, Long Island, NY, but I will travel, if necessary. Thanks.

Lisa, Hello there ~hugs~ I would call Oxford and get names of Dr's that would do the surgery and start to go down the list that way, research them and see who is the best on the list! I know it takes time but that might be a way to go. I am not sure if that helps any but I wish you all the best! 

Hi Lisa,  I interviewed 4 surgeons on Long Island for RNY surgery:  Dr. Lester Cooperstone with LIJ in Syosset , Dr. Molave A'daniel with Good Samaritin and Dr. Colin Brathwaite at St. Catherine's in Smithtown.  Dr. Arif Ahmad at Mather Memorial only takes patience who can go out of Network as he doesn't belong to any plans.  I hope this helps but I do believe Dr. Brathwaite takes Oxford.  Call his office to make sure:  631-265-7000  I hope this info helps. Hi!

I have Oxford Freedom and had to pay $1000.00 out of pocket  -  for using a OUT OF NETWORK surgeon.

They said YOU have none????

Maybe call back again and double check??? Another thought ... I think  Dr Garber's partner Dr Holover accepts oxford.

Complete ditto from Britt.  I know Dr. Holover accepts Oxford.  I have Oxford freedom too & elected to pay the $1,000 because I'm going from LapBand to RNY, but I've heard that Dr. Holover is excellent. Karen

Scott: Hi.  Do you know if Oxford Freedom covers DS Revision or if they still considere it experimental?  I am thinking of going with Dr. Roslin for the DS.  His partner did my RNY 5 years ago.  Thanks. 

You guys are AWESOME!!  I would definitely feel comfortable using Dr. Holover. I am going to call my insurance company today to confirm that he is in my plan, and then I will call the office for an appointment. Thanks again! Hope to see you all on the losers bench some day. Lisa
