Is this PROGRESS, finally????

I'd finally had it. Waiting for a stupid info packet from Albany Med, was three weeks of precious time wasted. I finally called them this morning, to be informed that they've changed their program and rather then mailing materials are setting up one-on-one appointments with a Nurse-practioner. A simple letter stating this new development would have been pleasantly received. However, as I've often said...you have to be your own advocate. So I have an appointment August 1st which was their first available. Still have to get a referral from my pcp...unless they are doing that for me. Not really sure... It was kind of a blur. Is this really progressing to the point that I may one day have surgery??? God, I hope so!  Of course with August 1st as my date officially starting this process. I probably won't have surgery until 2008. (Geez..will I be diabetic by then?) Egads!!! That means I can't leave my current employment for at least eight months.  I don't know how I'll fair with that situation. So I'll encourage my sis, yet again to either (a) get her GED and apply for a full time job with benefits or; (b) apply for medicaid..which I believe has a 12 mos requirement of medically supervised eating habits. She definately needs this surgery with her weight consistently climbing and her chances of diabetes multiplying by the day. Five years my junior and an inch shorter she outweighs me by 50lbs at least. With a BMI of 51 +/-, my baby girl needs help ASAP. I just hate this waiting game! I wonder if moving to Canada would be worth the trouble...free healthcare after all. But I think I'd have to wait 6 mos for citizenship.  *sigh*

Hun hang in there! It will work out for you when the time is right and I know it is so hard!!!  I can not believe that they did not let you know the new way things were going, if you would have not followed up you would have not moved forward! Good thing you are staying on top of them! Aug will be here before you know it so sit back and get yourself ready to move forward, this is a good step already! Try hanging in there with work and see where it takes you, keep us posted!
