Thanks so much for all of the warm welcomes. I have a friend in Rochester who is also looking into the surgery and he turned me on the the whole idea in the first place. Since then I have been reading up on it like crazy. I've been all over this site, another, as well as the American Society for Bariatric Surgery site and I've got a folder FULL of information on the surgery. My only fear, as is true with most people, is not being approved for this particular surgery by my insurance. I'm hoping that doesn't happen because I am too scared to consider rny...I don't want any of my internal plumbing rearranged. It's just not something I'm willing to consider. I have looked at the certificate of coverage for my particular insurance and they say they will cover rny but that lap band is considered investigational. I'm hoping I will be able to sway them into covering it. Don't know if I will be successful though. I am looking into having the surgery done at Highland Hospital in Rochester (its supposed to have a very good bariatric center).
WOW, totally forgot about this post! Was told to keep people updated and I dropped the ball a little. Was right before I went into a camp season though (I'm a camp director) so by the time I was able to breathe again I kind of forgot. So much has happened since I first posted last May! Wow, its been almost a year. Lets see here's a brief time line.
May 28, 2007 (just 10 days later) -Lost my father, made a commitment to myself and to his memory to do this once and for all.
August 2007- Went to my initial seminar came out feeling confused about lapband vs rny but stuck to my convictions and decided to go ahead with lapband
December 2007- First nutritional seminar. Was interesting, didn't learn much, but got the ball rolling
January 2008 - First NUT appointment 10lbs down 7 to go
Psych eval-cleared suprisingly enough haha
February 2008 - second NUT appointment 17 lbs lost, cleared for surgery
Received phone call to meet surgeon 1 week later
Met with surgeon, got the go ahead, got a date for April 2, just waiting on insurance
So thats whats been going on. Its been a crazy roller coaster of a ride and I'm sure its only going to get more intense from here on out. Please cross your fingers for me that my insurance approves. Should be hearing any day now, was submitted a week ago. I'm so nervous. Anyways, just thought I'd update. Thanks!
