Aww Karen I am so sorry. Yes to not take care of an IH can be very dangerous, so if that is what is happening then it needs to be taken care of right away. I know Dr Garber knows his stuff and you have always trusted him to this point so no reason to doubt it now. What does your own gutt tell you? Hang in there and I will be thinking of you and praying for a speedy recovery. How much weight have you lost? Are you still loosing? LisaMarie

hi karen, unfortuntely one of the only ways you can rule out an internal hernia(if its a small hernia but they do grow bigger and they only happen in bypass patients.) they can grow in three different places w/in the surgery) is an exporatory surgery. It isnt true that IH cant be seen on ct-scans. They saw mine. If its really small they can not see it/miss it is why some people say they cant see it on ct-scans. But if you have been having GI problems for so long the hernia wold have growed and it would be spotted on the ct-scan. Make sure your surgeon reads the ct-scan not just the radiologist. some of those radiologist dont know what they are doing and they are the ones who miss the hernias. When I had a IH, the radiologist said there was no IH but the ct-scan showd slow paralsis w/in my bowels and a pseudo-bowel obstruction(what else is new w/me). my surgeon and his partner looked at my ct-scan in the morning and caught the hernia. ( I dont remember which surgery that was but it doesnt matter at this point.) So just make sure your surgeon sends you for an updated ct-scan(not one from the ER three months ago that only the radiologist looked at) and reads the ct-scan films himself. Take care and let me know if you need help or have questions be well.

Karen, The worst is over. We all know that there can be side effects from the surgery. If infact you do need the surgery, your recovery rate is expected to be relatively quick. You are going to be ok and back on your feet in no time. It is really important to follow your surgeon's recommendations. Come to this site for encouragement-that is why we are all here. Please keep us posted. Carol
