shara, my doctor does not require that. I asked him if it would help shrink my liver if I lost weight before and he said with my bmi only being 41 it wouldn't make a difference. so I guess it might be on a individaul bases, depending on how much the patient weighs. Sheila

My surgery was at 8am and my Dr. told me to stop eatting at midnight. (and he knew that i'd still be awake at midnight saying my goodbyes to Krispy Kreams)

Yes, we were required a 2 day liquid diet. On the first day you can have anything liquid including ice pops, soups etc but then the day before you can only have clear liquids Marie

My doc didn't! I could eat and drin****il midnight the night prior to surgery! And let me tell you, I took advantage! LOL I did have to lose a minimum of 5% of my weight for the insurance company prior to my approval.

The answer is No because I didn't have to. Some doc's make you lose some weight prior to the surgery (in whatever method you choose) in order to shrink the liver for a successful surgery. Besides your BMI, it may also have to do whether you are having your surgery open vs. lap and rny vs. band.

YES.. for me I have to... FOR 5 WEEKS!!! I am currently on medifast for 5 weeks !! I am not doing all that well though 1st week only lost 4 lbs,,, ! ( have to lose 26 by June 4th!!!) (my surgery is 6/11!) And I get on the Scale every day and no change grrrr..I'm drinking 64oz of water on top of 5 8oz shakes!! I'm freaking out!! My Body has been like this for the last few years though I can gain no problem but dieting the weight takes forever to come off I thinks it's because of all the yo- yo dieting I've done over the years. I'm on eof the ones whos doc requires a weight loss prior to surgery. The insurance company has a strict policy too. I have to lose 5% of my weight for approval & Dr. Clarkes Office requires an additional 5% or no surgery. I weigh 260 so... 26lbs or my surgery is a no go... getting nervous... Good luck
