Awaiting ins. approval and a question...

Well, I think my info has been sent of to the insurance co, and is now in their hands. I do have a question though... Do you know if moderators take attendance at support group meetings and if so, will non-attendance keep us from being considered as serious candidates? The reason I'm asking is this: The support group meeting in my area, sponsored by my center, has meetings on the same night as my ASL class. This is not a class I would ever blow off as my young daughter is Deaf and this is just waaaay too important to miss other than for something as serious as maybe The Plague. The other meetings sponsored by my center are all 1.5 hrs or more away. This in no way means I am less than 110% committed to this process and the lifetime changes, but not sure how the surgeons view this.

A woman I work with never attended one support group meeting. I went to a handful. I know our group took attendance for the purpose of assisting our doc's facility become certified as a Center of Excellence (or whatever it is). If I were you, my daughter would come first as well!!!!

Thanks Cheri, I was hoping maybe that was why they took attendance. I agree all the way about putting her first. I know we have to take care of ourselves so we are able to take care of those we love, but that's why I'm hanging out with all of you fine folks here! I gotta say, if I have a question and it hasn't been asked and answered before on here or you all can't answer it, then I'm pretty sure I wouldn't find the answer at a brick-n-mortar meeting.

You're welcome! I wasn't supported at the support group I attended. I was the only one wanting a lap band and no one in the group had one. It was almost adversarial at times. I can tell you, I will go to the group next Wednesday night to show them ...it didn't take 5 damn years and I did keep moving forward! Plus, from my start weight, I only have to lose 1 pd. to be down 30! They haven't seen me since November '06! You're right, you'd most likely find an answer here over that group. Several of the OH groupies...lol...are medical staff themselves!

My insurance required that i go for 2 support group meetings, i went to those two and have kept going, the one i go to is about an hour away from my house but it's worth the drive for me to get the support i need from face to face humans. ANDI

Went I was going for approval they did not require those support meeting so I would call your Ins carrier and ask if that is a requirement for approval. Also stay on top of the Ins Comp for your approval. I wish you all the best, please let us know as soon as you are approved. Debra P
