A little confused about psych appointment
Ok, I went to my psych appointment today. I figured she would ask a few questions and I would be on my way. Well, she did a family genogram and asked a lot of questions about my family growing up, peppered with a couple of questions about my weight growing up diets etc.. She then said she would like to see me again
I dont understand why she would need to see me again I have no significant issues. She said however, she wanted to make sure I was "still in the right frame of mind" Is this normal. The nutritionist that gave me her name said that she didn't see any issues and that I should breeze through the appointment and then it would be out of the way. This stinks I was hoping to be done with it and have a step out of the way. I also had my consult with the Sleep Wake Center (Dr. Weiss, super nice guy) He said that my tounge is "displaced" and that I have a very narrow opening to my windpipe and that even if I were not required to have a sleep study he would do it anyway since I have such a narrow opening. He was very nice and super informative. So I will have my sleep study on July 13 and get the results on August 3. I have another appointment with the nutritionist on June 22 and the psych lady on June 28. Hopefully that will be it for the psych stuff. I was just wondering if anybody else had this same experience with psych.
Thanks I know this was long Ugh

Hey Crystal, I was at the psych eval about 3 hours. This included completing a 350 question multiple choice test! The head shrinker also asked me questions about my family and weight around childhood. I don't think it's totally unusual. Each head shrinker is different. Good Luck with the other appts. Time will fly!!!!

Hi crystal,
I know that you are alittle bummed about the psy eval and having to go again for another appt. But thay just have your best intrest at heart. THey are trained proffesionals thay can see right through peoples answers. May bee she just wants to make sure that this is ths best thing for you to do and that there are no underlining issues. I know it sucks but just try and be patient., i'm sure everthing will work out.

Crystal:
I am really into the whole support group thing and believe me when I say that they are just making sure that any issues whether they are out in the open or stuffed inside can re-surface at some time without warning- It scares me to hear those that have gained their weight back repeat over and over that they should have taken the opportunity to have therapy so that they could process and therfore be more sucessful. As for me, I am looking for a therapist that works with people that have eating issues-
good luck-
Vicki
I had to go for 2-3 appointments for my psych eval, because you're pre-op you don't realize what you could be facing post op. There are quite a few people who suffer from depression after the surgery, if you had some childhood trauma that is manifesting itself through food, this surgery will kick you butt, there's is more to it then meets the eye. Your nutritionist isn't a psychiatrist/psychologist they can't judge your mental frame of mind. Go for the second consult, let them see how perfect a candidate you are for surgery and keep her/his number handy in case there are issues after surgery. Be Well, ANDI

Crystal,
WOW I so agree with Andi, it is something so important to have under your belt because we all have a problem with food or else we would not be here. I know for myself, I wish I would have delt with these issues before surgery so I would have been really ready to us my tool to its fullest! I am working on them now with the phyc and I am almost 2 years out! It sure takes time and like Andi said keep his/her number for after surgery, it might just come in handy!
Keep us posted hun and you are just another step closer!
