Okay gang, I know alot of us are Dr Caruana's patients and he starts us out on those orange chewable Optisource Multivitamins. I don't know about the rest of you but they gag me. My open was almost 2 weeks ago, Thursday May 3rd and I go see him this Thursday. Here are the problems I'm having: besides the optisource making me want to hurl, I'm getting alot of like, acid reflux or acid indigestion. Strange thing is its mostly when I drink water or water based products like Crystal Lite. I'm tolerating jello, pudding, broth, applesauce, scrambled eggs and of course popsicles. I never was a milk drinker but lately the 1% tastes pretty good. I'm not using a straw, taking little sips, etc. but I keep getting this pain like I chugged a nice cold pepsi. Tomorrow I'm supposed to move on to the mechanical softs. Any thoughts? Don from Buffalo

I was never given any info on vitamins So, a few days out of surgery last week, I bought GUMMIS! LOLOLOL DUH CHER! I obviously got them home, into my mouth and spit...really far! LOL I know, really lady like. Anyway, they went to my nephew and niece. I ended up buying FLINSTONES chewables. I'm fine with those and 2 equal my regular horse pill vitamins that I used to take. LOL Maybe I need some adult chewables?

Hi Don I use Optisource all the time and I have no problem with it. As far as the acid reflux, all of us patients inour practice are put on pepcid for the first 30 days of surgery and believe me, it helps. Since then, I have nomore acid reflux and gerd. Take your time with moving onto other foods. Go very slow. You might not be ready for them. If you need any help, just ask. i have a food chart that we follow in our practice post-op. If you'd like a copy of it, let me know and I'll email it to ya. Good luck...........Marie

Hi Don, I had surgery on 5/10 by Dr Caruana....I came home on Sunday (5/13). I haven't had too many problems...but, I can only tolerate water. Can't finish jello or popsicles. I also HATE the vitamins...there has to be another way! Please ask Dr Caruana if there are any other options. Tomorrow I start the next stage...wish me luck!

Hi Don. We are instructed to take 2 flintstones chewables, although I'm not sure how soon after surgery we can start them. Good luck!

Hi Don! I was just in Dr C's office today and there was a guy in there with the same problem. Although he is 6 weeks out. You might want to call them and ask what other options you have. I myself have not had the surgery yet so I can't speak from experience....sorry. Good luck to you! Debi
