Thank you for that information.  I think I'd like the four seasons (only milder) - since I live in PA now. Denise

I live in Las Cruces NM, but I grew up in the Silver City area.  It is a wonderful place.  It's weather is really mild, but it does get all four seasons.  Unlike where I live now where we get two seasons:  hot and windy. It's also a pretty small town, with a university.  If you like the outdoors, you'll love the surrounding forests.  It's a great place to retire, but not so great for making a living (which is why I don't live there).

Topic: I'm finally home!

I am so glad to be home.  My surgery was the day after Christmas '07 in Houston, TX with Dr. Garth Davis.  My surgery went fine, but I had to stay in Houston for two weeks as I was an out of towner and they wanted me nearby in case of complications.  I'm 30 pounds lighter and it hasn't been quite a month yet.  I will be looking for support from you other post-ops, as I don't really understand the food limits yet.  The nutritionist I saw was vague, but did give a limited handout.  I'm on a soft diet phase right now for 4 weeks.  I can't believe how much trouble I'm having getting in all the water required.  I used to "guzzle" water and now I have to be conscience about sipping.  Had a pulled muscle in my stomach area and it's been painful for a few weeks.  Am trying to walk, using the treadmill as it's so stinking cold here in ABQ, hate to go out.  Any suggestions or tips for getting my post-op protein, are gladly appreciated.  Thanks to those of you who wrote in the past.  Kellymb

I hopped on over here from the PA board to see if I can get some opinions about Silver City as our ultimate retirement place. Any comments? Denise

Topic: Yeah! I got approved!!
I haven't been here in forever but I have wavered back and forth about getting this surgery for the past 2 years at least. I finally took the plunge and saw Dr. Orris in AZ in November and after a huge struggle to get ahold of my medical records from a previous provider, I was approved right away. My surgery is scheduled for 2/14! What a valentines present I am getting. For what it is worth, for those of you who don't want to travel back and forth alot. I went out once for the initial appointment and the first set of testing and then again a few weeks later for the next set of testing & the psych appt and that was it. They even let me schedule my preop appt the day prior to my actual surgery. They were VERY VERY accommodating with me being out of town and allowed me to make minimal trips out there. Best of luck to you all, I will check back in from the losers bench. Melanie
