Topic: RE: DR Liza Maria Pompa Gonzalez
Dr. Pompa did my surgery on 3-08-08.   I would recommend her.  I was in recovery before I knew it.   She explained everything to me.  I found her to be kind and understanding.  She was also patient because I had some surgery fears.  She walked me thru them.  I met Patti.  I found her to be very knowledgeable about the lapband.  She answered all my questions and calmed me down since I had surgical fears.  She still calls me after surgery to check on me.  I found her to be a doll.

Topic: Denied
Hi. I got denied for the surgery this week....  I guess the insurance will not approve me because of my TSH levels are too high. I had hypothyriodism when I was younger 9-15 but have been fine since. Even through my pregnancy everything was fine. Right after I had my son I noticed things were changing and I didnt get to see a doctor till 8 months after. My TSH levels were high back in Dec. but my primary said that I was just "borderline" and that I would need to take medication, so I didnt. But now the insurance is saying its too risky and that I need to get my levels down before I can have the surgery. SO they started me on synthriod this week.. my family and I are already seeing a little bit of a difference. Hopefully I can get my levels back down and can get approved finally. Ive been on this journey for too long to give up now. Im just bummed... My mom got approved a few weeks ago and we were going to do ours at the same time, but now im going to have to wait. Was anyone else denied their 1st time and if you were how did you deal with it and how long did it take you to get approved?

Topic: Weight loss conference to be held in Dallas Texas May 2-4

Good Afternoon OH’ers..

I am not sure if many of you all know but I am involved with two friends, Yvonne and Debra from the Texas Message board, we have started a website called www.rydobesity.com

We are hosting a weight loss conference, in Dallas, on May 2-4.. Would like to extend an invitation to all of you.. Although this is not an official OH event we have been pre approved by them to post on here.. All the information is included in this post and posted on www.rydobesity.com..

Dr. John LoMonaco, http://www.drlomonaco.com/, who is our premier sponsor and featured speaker was my mine and Debra’s Plastic surgeon. You may know Dr. LoMonaco from The Learning Channel hit television show Big Medicine.. I was featured on the show as Dr. LoMonaco’s patient and this will be a great opportunity to be exposed to a nationally known plastic surgeon and his patients. As you are aware obesity is a national trend that endangers everyone. It is also the cause of numerous co-morbidities that are often fatal. For so many members of Obesity Help, weight loss surgery has been a life saving tool and the life that it has afforded Yvonne, Debra and myself is something that could have never been imagined. We want to share their experience as well as methods of how they live a successful weight loss journey.

RYD stands for Ramon, Yvonne and Debra. We want to RYD Obesity! We met here at OH on the TMB (Texas Message Board). We really want to make this conference for everyone and the one thing that everyone needs is information to make this journey a successful one. To me, that's the most important part. If you are fortunate to have the miracle of this surgery, you must invest in your future by nurturing your gift and tool. I would love to have as many pre-ops as possible so you can start to experience the love and support available as well as some people that are further down the road.... share their experience. Please take a moment to read Gina's post in the link about what to expect. She shared some great news about her experience last September. So here's a rehash.

Here's the original post (about the event)Right in the middle in red is the link for registration. or HERE

(about the event)Right in the middle in red is the link for registration. or

There is one correction and that is that the rooms are showing up as $89 on Travelocity whereas the registration form states $99 rest assured that you will receive the lower of the two prices.. We, by all means are not trying to make any money off this conference.. We are all three here to support as many people as we can.. We are firm believers in Paying it forward.. I know I would not be where I am today had some one not paid forward to me..

Topic: I'm a newby
Hi all!  I'm a newby here and so glad I found this sight!  I live in Albuquerque but travel throughout the southwest a great deal.  I consulted several doctors concerning my weight loss journey and have selected a wonderful doctor.  Because of past health issues I am going with the gastric sleeve.  I start my first set of test this Tuesday....  sleep apnea and  then the psychological.  I'm hoping there are others out there who have the gastric sleeve and share a little insight with me.  Kat

Topic: RE: Hair Loss???
Hi I am new here to the boards, I had my surgery on the 28th of February 2008, as for the hair loss with reading about it, it happens because of the rapid weight loss and yes if you arn't eating enough protein.  Protein is essential for our bodies because it helps with not just our hair but our nails and bones and practically every aspect of our body.  The good news is (I'm not there yet) that it will grow back.  Just remember that everyone is different but it starts about the third month and ends after awhile.  Hope this helps...............M
