Topic: RE: Hungery?
Hi - I always hesitate to chime in my thoughts or opinions - because I had RNY not VSG. But for what it's worth - I will anyway. I was told that the first one to two years was the "honeymoon" period - one where you would almost certainly never feel hungry. Well, I have had a long honeymoon - I still never feel true hunger. That's the miracle of this surgery for me. I have the odd feeling now and then that only lasts for a less than a minute and I think - Oh No - the hunger feeling is coming back - but it disappears. The most difficult part is head hunger and old habits. I still fight those ALL the time. Have a great weekend everyone - me - I'm doing 3 twelve hr nights in ER. Without this surgery - I'd probably be sitting home on disability or sick leave this weekend. As hard as they are - I'll take the 3 twelve hr nights anytime!

Hi Terrie I sent you an email yesterday but it may have gone to your junk mail because I am not a contact or something. Let me know and if you didn't get it I will try again. My BMI right now is under 60 but it is still high I think around 56 but like you I have medical issues and maybe too many for Dr Pace to even consider doing the surgery on me, but in order to get my health back under control I really need to get this done. I have tried so many other things and nothing works. I partly blame it on all of the medications I have to take and also because of all the pain I am in it is very hard to exercise. I figure if I can lose a bit of weight and get my BMI lower I may get done quicker. The worst thing is it is hard to lose weight and I am getting very tired from trying, it can really stress you out. I am glad to have found this site reading everyone's entries you don't feel so alone on this journey. Have you have the information session yet or any of the testing I hear about? If not maybe we will be on this road together since our BMIs are so close.

Welcome to the site Krista. My email is   [email protected]
I need you to send a request email to me and then I can forward the
copy of the diet to you. For some reason the diet will not copy and paste.
I am in the same situation as you. I've seen Dr. P and he asked me to lose
30lbs. to be under 60 BMI for surgery. I am hoping that he is going to do me
in Feb. I was 326lbs. when he saw me and because I am short. My BMI
was 61. He is doing people now with BMI's around 45-46. So, he is working
his way up. I've been a little discouraged with it all because I was one of the
1st. names on the referal list when he started and I am still waiting. All
because my BMI was too high. I am trying to wait patiently until the new
year, hoping he will be comfortable doing us with higher BMI's then. I also,
have health issues.

I'm off to St. John's after lunch today.  My internet access will be sketchy at best.  Last time I was away my computer had trouble connecting to some wi-fi connections.  I am assuming that since no one was opposed to my suggestion that it will be 2:00 at Starbucks in Chapters.  I will try and check back but just in case, if there is a change can someone text or call my cell at 709-293-0069.  Thanks.

Oh, and does anyone know if there is wi-fi or other internet access anywhere in the HSC?

My understanding is they will never return, at least not the way they used to be.  The part of the stomach that produces the hunger hormone Grehlin is removed so you no longer have that hormone to make you feel hungry.  You still have to deal with Head Hunger though.  That's the "OMG I would really like to have some of that".  That is still something we will have to deal with for a lifetime.  At least when we do give in and have some, a very small amount will satisfy us.  We must also work to break our old bad eating habits such as emotional eating.  We must try to substitue eating with something else,  It could be exercise, cleaning, shopping, whatever works for you.

 Hi Krista ,

And welcome!!!  You are right you will find a tremendous amount of support on these boards.  I have only been here since September and I have learned so much.  I am hoping the information sessions are a first start - I am still waiting for mine too.   I have not tried the liquid diet yet - Terrie did send it to me - so if you wish you may pop me your email address and I will could send it along as well.

I have started losing weight on my own - walking and tracking my calories.  I journal everything I have eaten in the run of a day.   I am getting used to feeling satisfied as opposed to full.  There is a big difference.   I have not tried the liquid diet yet.   For now this is working for me and I want to wait until I meet with the dietician before I start it.   I have lost 14 lbs in the last 3 weeks - not super fast but not super slow either.  And I am lowering my BMI to make for a lower risk surgery.   I walk every day...either on my treadmill, outside or to a DVD called Walk away the pound - actually you can get a version on youtube for free. :-)

I also use an iPhone app called loseit to track my food!  Love it.  When the pre-op and post op diets are in full swing this program even tracks your protein!  WOW!   Love it!!  Welcome to the boards - it has been a fantastic experience for me!

Cheers,
Trina
