Shauna...so glad you called the doc's office and got that all straightened out.  You don't want to go into surgery with your sugar haywire.  By the way..what is TVP?

Take care my friend and you will be in my thoughts and prayers on your day!

Seriously...I am aggervated I have to feel so puny leading up to the surgery!  Thanks for your thoughts and prayers!

TVP stands for texturized vegetable protein.  You can get it in dry form in the aisle where you buy flour, cornmeal, etc. and it's great added to various recipes.  We love this product from Morningstar Farms that you can find in the freezer section (we use it in place of ground beef):

My doctor had no special diet before surgery. He just told me to cut back the carbs. I am sooo sorry you had to go through all of that. To this day I have to eat every few hours or my blood sugar dives and I get a migraine and fell sick to my stomach. I am glad you got to eat a meal and PLEASE if you feel like your going to crash get some food in you girl!! you are NOT a fat pig!! you are human with a REGULAR sized stomach that needs something besides a 10 day dangerous liquid diet!! Yes I do think they are dangerous, but thats my opinion. Id rather have a little food and not pass out and hit my head on something or die from head injury because I was too weak to hold myself up. After surgery my Doctor DID have me on a two week liquid diet LOL it was CLEAR liquids only and I can tell you I made it to day three and then had to eat some peanut butter and I broke down and ate some yogurt so I didnt pass out from feeling so weak.

I wish you the BEST in your remaining days on your liquids..PLEASE dont be foolish and try to *stick it out* obviously your body (like mine) can only take so much liquids before it shuts down and throws itself out of whack. BE CAREFUL and good luck your big day is right around the corner.

Well, I think I'm right there with ya on the dangerous note, Darcie.  They did tell everyone to CALL the moment things didn't seem to be going well with the liquid diet.  I guess that's why...so they could tweak things to make it not dangerous.  But then you have people like me who don't want to be a bother (or fail another diet!) and think they can tough it out.

I went ahead and had a 2nd high-protein, low-carb dinner tonight because I felt like I NEEDED it.  I just still didn't feel "out of the woods."  Did the chili like I said in my reply to Kim and wow...I have not felt this good since before I woke up with the headache last Wednesday morning!  PHEW!

Shelli PM'd me earlier and asked if I had a plan for post-op, so I got my handy-dandy binder out and read that on Sunday, the 2nd day after post-op, I will be able to have a full liquid diet, whi*****ludes milk, lowfat cream soup, SF yogurt, SF pudding, egg drop soup, soft boiled egg, cream of wheat, grits, and protein drinks.  Do you think that includes enough carbs (grits, cream of wheat) to help keep my sugars stable?  I would be right with you by day 3 if not.

I promise to be careful for the remaining time...thankfully it is short!  Thanks so much for your reply, Darcie.  I hate it you had to go through what you did, but it feels good to have like company sometimes who can understand!

Your liquid diet is WAY better then what I was allowed to have and yours is way safer. I went ahead and ate the things you listed even though I was only suppose to have protein shakes, sugar free jello, sugar free popsicles and broth!!!! isnt that horrible?? I even called the office and said *I am about to die of starvation and NO it was NOT head hunger I was truly hungry* and the office said *no you need to follow what we said for two weeks* well I know my body and knew I had to get something in me so I had the yogurt and some sugar free pudding and I didnt die lol Yes I think what your doc has given you should keep you from getting low sugar and the nasty headaches that follow. Best of luck to you!!

Darcie,  Yes, that is horrible...and I know because that's the diet I've been on since last Tuesday!  lol  I am soooooooo glad that is not what is prescribed after surgery because you and I both know I'd be headed for trouble.  I am glad you think I will do better on the post-op full liquids that will start on Sunday for me.  I think so too!

I keep having a song run through my head now that you shared your pics.  Did you ever see The Simpsons commercial were it sang, "Spidey pig, spidey pig, does whatever a spidey pig does"?  Well, my family sang that all the time.  So now in my head it's, "Spidey girl, Spidey girl, does whatever a spidey girl does"!  LOL  Pitiful.  Thanks for the endless tune!

Ditto on what Darcie said. I could of said the exact same thing. Thankfully my Dr doesn't like the pre op liquid phase either because I know that I couldn't do it. I get the symptoms that you describe if I go too long without eating (that's also why I couldn't stay on the starvation diets throughout the years)
You have done a great job to take it as long as you did. Don't feel bad in the least! Friday is almost here! I'm so excited for you!!
