Vitamin D...
Hey ya'll....
You'd think being 6 years post op I'd know this but heck, things have changed bunches... I had my yearly labs done this past Monday and found out my Vitamin D is low. How much are we supposted to be taking? I usually use a sublingual and take one every day, but guess it's not enough. He's sending me a perscription in the mail but I figured I'd go ahead and up it before then since it will probably be Tuesday or Wednesday before I get it...
Thanks, I knew I could count on you!!! Hope you're having a great weekend, I'm working - ugh!

The script is going to be for a 50,000 iu gelcap.
The gelcap is a form of D2 in an oil (fat) base. You won't absorb it well.
Rather than fill that script, go to vitalady.com, get her "dry" D in 50k (D3-50) and take that as you would have taken the gelcap.
The dry D is a water-miscible form of D rather than an oil-miscible, and you will be able to absorb it better.
When my D was low and I was in osteomalacia (adult rickets), I took 50k per day for 90 days, and am currently taking 25****il I get my next draw. That was in addition to what I was taking in my calcium.

Sorry it took so long to respond but this is my long working weekend... ugh! Thanks for the info, I just looked at my script and it is for 50k for 90 days... I'll check out vitalady... Thanks!!!! I thought I was doing great all my other labs have been perfect from day one, so I never worried about it - until now... ugh!
Thanks again!

Hey Sheryl! I knew Andrea would come to your rescue with an accurate answer to your question. Like Andrea I was going to warn you that you wouldn't absorb any form of Vit D well other than the D3. I take about 1400-1800 units daily and it works well for me according to my BX. Just had new draws on Friday and will know soon about the latest levels.
Hi Sheryl :)
When i got bloodwork done last month with my Endocrinologist, my Vitamin D level was low too!! I was prescribed the 50,000 gelcap and I take it once a week!! As far as absorption, not sure about that, my Endocrinologist is a VERY highly favored professional in Morehead City and I don't think she would give me something if it was not going to work for me!! So I am currently taking it and will be curious to see what the next labs will be 2 months from now!! Hope you are doing well and SOO look forward to seeing you in December :)

Yes I'm looking forward to the meetup in December also! Sending you hugs!!! The script from Dr. MacDonald (I just love that man) says to ***** the gelcap and squeeze the flavorless liquid into my mouth... I'm checking out vitalady though before I go in the morning to the pharmacy.
Thanks again!

I'll probably get sqawed at for this but this summer when they did my blood my D was above normal, not a whole lot but above normal. They contributed to ......yep the tanning bed. ALot to be said for sun light and I was not burnt or looking like old leather either. As a matter of fact I had only been going a month and at that time was spending weekends out side when I could. My doctor did not flame me for the tanning bed but like anyone said just to watch it and any skin conditions.
Beginning weight: 284
Surgery weight: 251
Current weight: 149
I hear ya and I'm glad nobody sqawed at ya.. lol! I don't get enough sun for sure, I burn soooo quickly (very fair skinned). Anyway thanks for the info... if this doesn't work I'll check out the tanning beds, I just don't have time to lay there - lol! In fact I've been trying to get to the chiropractor for the past month for an adjustment but every time I head that way something comes up and I have to handle that... ugh! My crazy life!
Have a great week!!!
