Hey everybody. I'm Amy in Lillington, NC. I am very new. Just finished my little profile. I have decided to take this journey. My husband and I are stationed at Fort Bragg. We just moved here in Jan from Germany. I am originally from NC, so it seems good to be home.
I just got my referral and went to my first educational meeting. I keep hearing about the "checklist" but have no idea what that all means because I haven't been to my orientation yet.
So far I think the site is great, I am learning so much....
I have always said for years that people that chose to have the surgery were weak because they could just lose weight on their own....but you know I have been one of those people that needs this tool and I am so excited that for once I have made a decision to change my life.
So...wish me luck!

 Hi Amy,

Welcome!  I, too, felt that way for years.  But now I know that making the decision to have this surgery only proved how strong and determined I was :)  I have truly embarked on a new and wonderful adventure in this life.

Unfortunately, I had to delete this post due to privacy concerns.

Got a lap band in 2008. Tried hard, but didn't lose much weight & developed swallowing problems. Fought my insurance company for almost a year & finally had a band to DS revision on 5/11/12. Have now lost 125 pounds. Yay!

Welcome Amy!  By checklist, they may be talking about other things you need to do prior to getting your surgery set such as a psychologist appt., endo, etc.

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have.  We are one big family here!

Hi Amy,

Welcome to OH and specifically to the NC Forum. I'm a bit prejudiced, but I think it's truly one of the best, most supportive and compassionate message boards available. Please be sure to ask any questions that might come to mind. While it might seem obvious or 'stupid', believe me when I say that we all have to learn one way or another and often if you have a question, so do many of us. Sometimes we have the answer, sometimes we'll refer you to your care provider, but we'll always try to help.

You are so right when you said that this was a 'process.' While it can be frustrating, it's probably a good thing that it takes a while because it generally takes us a while to get our heads and bodies ready for this incredible journey.

I look forward to getting to know you as you embark on the most liberating adventure of a lifetime.

All the best,

Barbara

Amy - Welcome !  as Barb said this is a great bunch of folks - lots of support and information.  I have ventured to some of the other sites and quickly come back here - there is not a mean and spiteful person on this board...

It is great to make a decision and work towards that goal.  I certainly don't regret mine - just wish I could've found a way to do it sooner....

Hope to see you often - it is the only way to get to know someone....

Hi Amy,

Welcome aboard!!  I am a Navy Wife (retired after 24 years)  and living back in the old hometown.  I had lapband surgery on Aug 12 and am I glad that I did.  I have a long way to go but I am plugging along.  Good for you on your decision to do something about your weight.  It took me 3 years to get to the point of making the decision, but I do not regret it at all.

Hope to get to know you.  I have a cousin who lives in the Lillington area, so I get up there sometimes. Nice little town.
