She can use the chewable gas-x or the strips.  She should be walking 5 minutes out of every hour, it really helps get the gas out.  I actually went for 10-15 min walks 3x a day that first week.  Tell her to hang in there, it gets better each day.

Thanks Kimberly..I see you just had surgery also..it sounds as if you're doing great.

Deb also gained about 12 pounds in the hospital...did you gain any?

I told her it was fluid & gas so she's not stressed over it..

Yes I put on about 6 pounds from the IV fluids, but not to worry, as of today, being out of the hospital since last saturday, I've lost 16 pounds, 6 fluid and 10 fat hopefully, LOL

My back was hurting terribly also and it was the gas.  The pain meds help, is she taking it?  I'm still taking it at night, I found I couldn't lay down and relax, I'd feel a pull inside my belly.  But if I take the pain med before bed, I sleep most of the night.  Tell her to hang in there, it only gets better.

The gas is the worst part after surgery.
I took Gas X it seemed to help some.
The gas will disapate after a few days.
I wonder if her back might of been hurting because of the gas they use during surgery.
Yes walking will help alot too.
Even if she just walks around her house inside.
I was very weak after surgery so my hubby held my hands and we would walk in my house usally ever hour.
Tell Deb keep the faith it will get better.

Thanks Annie, Im going to get her the gas x.
I did get her up & she walked 3 laps around the house. we're gonna try that each hr.

she's using a heating pad too on her back..

Im just starting my WL process but it all seemed good me & Deb talking about it & going to support groups together but when she went for surgery..its like it was "for real" It kind of scares me now..I dont know why..she did ok..oh well. Im just taking one day at a time.I dont even know if I am  appproved yet..

well thanks again....Kelly

Hi Kelly.
This is great you and Deb are helping each other.
All I can tell you is wls is thisbest thing I ever did for myself I have no regrets.
It is the most incredible journey.
Today someone told me I looked tiny OMG I never thought I would ever hear someone say that to me.
I feel absolutly fantastic.
Keep in mind with wls it is not easy and I tell people you have to want it more than anything and be willing to accept the changes.
Foe me I have found I must excersise 5 days a week.
I can not just have wls and think that is it.
It is hard work.
The benefits are wonderful.
I was very scared before my surgery and if I had to do it again I would do it in a heart beat again and again.
Send my love to Deb.
Thank you Kelly for being there for her.

YES Tell her to SIP, WALK, SIP, WALK, SIP, WALK!!!!!! Sitting idle can lead to stiffness and blood clots and retain gas!! SO it is very important that she gets out and walks!! Each day she should feel a little better!!! Just remind her this is ONLY temporary!!! AND SIP AND WALK SIP AND WALK...lol

Urgh, the dreaded gas.  I hear some people have it move up and get trapped in their shoulder blades.  Owie!  I hope the walking and Gas X both help her to be more than comfortable very soon.

As for you, my friend, I have a feeling when you see your sister past this initial phase and begin witnessing all the wows as her new life unfolds, you are going to be thrilled to jump on board that WLS train with her!  That's my hope for you anyway...  Good luck to you both!
Band to DS

Unfortunately, I had to delete this post due to privacy concerns.

Got a lap band in 2008. Tried hard, but didn't lose much weight & developed swallowing problems. Fought my insurance company for almost a year & finally had a band to DS revision on 5/11/12. Have now lost 125 pounds. Yay!
