New job!

Not really a new "job", but a new department!

As a lot of you know (because I've taken care of you!), I'm an RN on a bariatric unit.  I have thoroughly enjoyed taking care of bariatric patients (as well as other surgical postop patients, but my first love is the bariatric postop patient).

Because surgery, in general, fascinates me, and because I have a great rapport with our surgeons, I applied for a position in our operating room.  We only offer positions in the OR twice/year because the training involved lasts for 6 months.  There were 4 positions open and 10 of us applied for them -- and I got my official offer yesterday.  I applied and interviewed and did my "job shadowing" for the OR back in July, so I have been waiting and wondering all this time!

I will continue to be on the bariatric unit until the last week of January, so may still be able to take care of several of you that are preop who will be having your surgeries before then.  After that ... who knows ... I may be the nurse welcoming you into the OR just before you get put under anesthesia!

Congratulations Dena!!!  That's great news!  I recently changed jobs within my company to a new department and I am LOVING every minute of it!  I hope the new job has the same effect for you!

Is that your kitty?  What breed of cat is that?

Not my kitty -- I wi**** was, but they are MAJOR expensive!  Several thousand dollars.  Too much for my budget, when I want to have plastic surgery.  lol  That's a sphynx breed kitten.  That avatar reminds me of myself with all this loose skin, so that's why I chose it.

Congratulations, Dena!  I was just thinking about you this week and wondering how you are doing.  Hope you really enjoy your new position and have a great time at your meet-up today.  Have you ever felt a Sphynx?  They are soooo soft!  Like petting a chamois cloth!

Thanks, Shauna.  No, I've never felt one, but I would LOVE to find one in person one of these days.  I don't know anyone who has one, though.

Dena,  There is a CFA show in Charlotte on December 13 and 14th.  You could contact them to ask if any Sphynx are registered to show that weekend.  The CFA show schedule is:  http://www.cfainc.org/exhibitors/show-schedule.html  Going to a cat show was one of the neatest experiences in my life.  It was amazing to see all the various breeds...be ready to fall in love with ones you never thought you would!  The Rex's were also just sooo neat.  Such marvelous personalities.  And the Sphynx...ahhh...how very, very cool.  Etiquette says to never touch without asking but I'll bet if you told a breeder that you came just to be able to see and hopefully touch a Sphynx for the first time, I'm sure they'll be proud and happy to oblige!

Thanks for that info!  Maybe I can go that weekend.  I've never been to a show and it would be SO neat!  I think I'm actually off that weekend, as a matter of fact.
