Help
Help me please! Has this happened to anyone else? I was down to 125...everything was great. Then I think I messed up! I know we're allowed a small amount of caffiene each day. Well the weather got cooler and I freeze...so therefore I started drinking more coffee. I know I should be drinking decaf but I wasn't. I was drinking good old energy giving regular. Well here's the problem...my feet, legs, hands and around the midsection started swelling. I gained up to 138 (13 pounds) in a week. Could it be the caffiene causing me to retain fluid and swell and gain weight that fast........Patsy
I have never heard of anything personally but did a quick google search and read that caffeine can cause fluid retention. I would stop the caffeine immediately and to be safe put a call into the surgeons nurse and let them know, especially if the water weight doesnt go back down.
On a side note many surgeons allow for caffeine, its really a matter of personal choice if you want to drink it or not, I personally do and dont have an issue... however in your case I would avoid if it is truly the cause of the swelling :-)

Hi Patsy,
I would think if nothing else has changed, it must have something to do with the caffiene.
Did you drink alot of coffee? I would stop immediately and see what happens.
I was taking off caffiene several weeks about by my NUT so now I drink Folgers Decaf singles.
They are like tea bags. It's delicious!
Good luck
Pam

I drink some regular coffee and tea but try to limit it. Since the weather has turned cooler and I'm always cold, I have been drinking a lot more hot tea but I try to make most of it decalf.
Try to switch and see if that works. I have always been told that caffiene works as a diuretic so I would think it would have the opposite effect.
Good luck! Alice

Patsy,
Try my cocoa for a warm me up!!!
It can be adjusted for WLS.
Cocoa Mix 11 oz Creamora or Coffeemate (plain, Light) 4 Cups Splenda 8 oz Nestles Quick (SF) 2/3 cup Cocoa 1 box Dry Milk (enough to make 8 quarts of milk) Mix WELL!!!! Add 1/3 cup of mix to 1 cup of ho****er. ( or 1/3 of the cup you are using to that “cup” of water!) To mix I use a Ziplock bag and toss it around a bit. I have also found that for me it is easier to mix everything except the milk really well and then add the dry milk.
I also add Any Whey from GNC for a bit more protein, just be sure the water is not boiling and just hot enough to drink.
