Can i eat it?
Amber,
You'll need to consult with your Dr and/or their dietician to see what 'their' protocol is for introducing new foods. Chicken salad may be okay if it is made without a highfat dressing. If you do try it, you'll need to have it finely shredded/chopped and go very slowly. I was able to have chicken on my program after about 4 weeks as long as it was tender enough to be cut with a fork.
Please check with your provider and see what they have to say.

Amber, Like Barb said, every program is so different! You really, really need to check with yours...just give them a call...that's what they are there for!
As for my program, I just checked my folder and it says that I can begin my "soft diet" at the beginning of the third week and chicken is on the list. (It says to be especially careful and chew foods thoroughly. Chew each bite at least 30 times before swallowing, until food is nearly liquid in consistency. If you don't, you risk clogging the opening between your stomach and intestine which can cause vomiting and a visit to the doctor.)
Definitely use low fat or fat free mayo if you are allowed the chicken salad on your plan!

I could start eating chicken at the begining of my 4th week post op!! The best chicken to try is the canned chicken!! It makes a yummy chicken salad!! Cut it up very good with a fork & It is VERY tender, so that would be a good one to start with!! I would definately consider calling your nutritionist or surgeon to make sure it is okay!! And when you do try it, chew like heck!!! LOL And take small bites to start with!! Just hang in there, by 8 months out you will be eating like a pro, just in much smaller portions!! Hope you are recovering well!!!
