Bad News! Ben just found out he's losing his job
I'm so sorry that you're having to go through this! This is a terrible time anyway, and then to have to deal with such insecurity is terrifying I'm sure. Hopefully something else turns up soon.
We never seem to realize it at the time, but most things happen for a reason. I'm praying that the end benefits of a change become apparent to you both soon. Years ago my dad was laid off from his job that he had been at for 27 years. It was shocking and devastating at the time. He worked a few temp positions for a few months and then found a new permanent job. It turned out to be the best for him. His old job was a work, and then come home type thing. He went to work every day, but never really enjoyed it. The new job was filled with fabulous, supportive co-workers, and turned out to be a dream job to take him to retirement. I'll pray that Ben finds that dream job. Good luck to you both.
Hi Deb,
Thanks for the supportive concern and well wishes. I hope that same for Ben, I just hope that he finds something in time to keep us afloat.
Thanks again,
Barbara

I am also concerned about the way that Ben found out - inadvertantly on an email??? something sounds fishy. Has Ben actually talked to someone?
I don't know of any jobs at this time - but networking may be the best answer. Hopefully it won't be a relocation.
Take care,
Shelia
Second, you are an amazingly positive and supportive person and I admire that about you. You are one of my big heros on here. That said, based on some of the other things you mmentioned about his employer, they may be breaking the law by letting him go. If it is in response to his FMLA use, or has anything else to do with his medical situation it may be in violation. So, it may not be going to happen at all. I cannot give legal advice, and am not doing so here, but I would encourage you to get more info on the whole situation.
If he was in my family, I would tell him to network like his income depended on it, but not do anything that gives the current employer the chance to let him go.
I'm involved with a ton of folks who are going thru changes in employment as part of what I do professionally, so if you want to "talk" offline - e-mail me at robin . weber2008 @ yahoo . com.
many prayers and good luck!
I was so s orry to read this posting. The economy is tough and I was an early vitcim of it myself. I am sure Benn will landon his feet. Networking is so very important and Linkedin is supposedly a very good resource. Your support has meant so much to me in my new homeotwn and if there is any thing I can do, please feel free to call on me.
Thank so much. We are doing all that we can re: networking and have 'linked in' to 'LinkedIn.com' among others.
I appreciate you friendship and offer of support.

Hi Shelli,
Thanks for the heads up on SAS and the STC... I'm pretty sure that Ben is a member.
Small world... I was a technical writer about 12 years ago and had been for years, then I went in to Program Management before we came out here 8 years ago. I don't work anymore and it's been so long I probably couldn't get a job if our lives depended on it.
Thanks again for the support,
Barbara
