Oh NO!  I'll keep my ears open for you.  I know the hospital here hired technical writers a few years ago to help with a grant, so you may want to tell Ben to be checking out the medical schools and hospitals in the RDU area.

I sure hope he will keep the current job until his surgery is scheduled.  You don't think his surgery had any impact on the decision to let him go do you???

My daughter lost her job last week and has not been able to find a radiology job anywhere east of Charlotte....  times are really tough.

I'll keep Ben in my prayers!!!  Alice

Hi Alice,

I don't know if it had an impact or not. We were hoping that his company was going to weather this storm fairly well, they were struggling with the rise in gas prices, but as they have fallen things seemed to be better. He works for a company that historically does better during lean times because they supply autoparts and people tend to repair, rather than replace their cars during lean times. That said, it looks like the writing is on the wall and it's just a matter of time until the other shoe drops.

Thank you for your prayers,

I have been hearing many stories of autoparts companies struggling lately since hubby works for a dealership (auto body).  He was so shocked when Bill Heard shut their doors overnight without warning and Keystone just laid off a bunch of people, including the driver that delivered to my hubby's dealership after she'd worked for them for MANY years.  The rise in gas, economy, etc. put a huge dent in our paycheck recently (he works on commission).  One a couple weeks ago barely covered just groceries and gas for the week...let alone bills and other neccessities!  I feel your stress, hon.  Times have just got to get better.  In the meantime, try hard to hang in there...I know it's going to be tough...we're cut from the same cloth you know.  {{{Hugs}}}

We've been worrying about our son who just got married because he's a mechanic for LandRover in San Jose CA. Dealerships there are shutting down right and left. So far, so good for them ... I hope that they are able to stay afloat.

Ben works for the single largest auto parts distributor in the US. Normally, they tend to do very well during an economic downturn, but with the rising gas prices they were really struggling and may still be. I'm hoping for a reprieve ... at least long enough for us to get to 'safe' ground. We'll see.

Thanks for the well wishes and understanding,

Wow Barb. I am sorry to hear that. I hope he finds something real quick. I am not in a place to help but I am here for moral support if either of you need me.

Barb you know I love you both dearly.
I was thinking and what I was thinking does his company offer a Cobra Plan?
Ben is such a smart man I hope that he will find something soon.

Hi Annie,

Thanks for your support and encouragement. While of course, COBRA would be offered, we wouldn't be able to 'afford' it if/when he loses his job. We are struggling as it is and with the absence of his income and the additional expense of COBRA, that's just not going to be an option.

I agree that Ben is a talented and capable person ... prejudice, not withstanding, however, in these times I'm worried that talent and competence may not be enough.

I'm praying for a miracle.

Barb:

I am thinking of you and Ben, and of course, Sarah as well. I know you would tell me to keep a positive outlook. I will tell you that you have always supported me and that has meant alot to me especially lately with all of my struggles. You know I will support you as well. The networking idea id fantastic and I hope something fabulous will come Ben's way! I hope it is as Annie says....one door closes and another opens and usually it works out for the better!

I hope things with our economy will settle here soon. It is scary for sure. Keep your chin up and keep the faith!

Lisa
