Just checking in with you guys...I'm waiting to see if Voc Rehab will help me with surgery

my BMI is over 40 but other than that I am healthy..
well I have aches & pains

BUT I haven't been to a doctor in 6 yrs...

Every time I go to my parents house I have been checking my BP. They have one of those digital ones.

it's running average..135/85  pulse 86, sometimes that bottom number is 90

do u think that is high for me?
That may be a good thing huh?

I'm 5ft 1 in. 250lbs.

Its bad you have to have serious problems to have this surgery, but maybe this will be a plus for me...also I have never had my cholesterol checked..

what's your thought??

Hey Koko. While I had BCBSNC for insurance I didn't have any problems. I didn't have high blood pressure, high cholesterol or high sugar. My blood pressure was always 118/65. My pulse was always around 60 bpm. They always told me it was like an atheletes but I said well you try carring all this around! Anyways my surgery was approved without problems so I don't have any good advice for you but I wanted to wish you well and we'll keep praying you get approved.

Hey Koko,

You'll have to check your policy, but standard practice is that you need a BMI greater than 40 if you don't have any comorbidities, and if you have 1 or more comorbidities, you can be approved with a BMI of 35. So since your BMI is over 40, it probably won't matter if you don't have a high cholesterol or high blood pressure. It seems to me that your BP seems elevated though. Each insurer has different requirements you have to meet, so check with yours to be sure. They should be able to tell you and often the person who works with insurance at the surgeon's office you are working with will be quite knowledgeable.

All the best,

Barbara

Thanks Barbara, I'm working with Voc rehab so theirs is a little different.
it's BMI over 40 PLUS 2 comorbidities.

But Im thinking once I get a good check up, they will find something that can apply..

dont sell yourself short if you really want to do the surgery. It would be worth the effort to get a blood work up as well as a good physical just to determine how well you are all the way around. So if you are healthy at 250 then how much more healthy would you stand to be 100 or so pounds lighter. It really boils down to getting committed to the lifestyle and perhaps some dietary program they may want you to try for a while prior to the insurance saying ok on the surgery. My wife jumped through a bunch of hoops to get hers done and wound up writing her insurance company to get approved. My insurance company probably threw a party when I aske them for the surgery. I all but got a letter saying "What took you so long to ask. " The worst that could happen is you get rejected the first round or maybe the second one. Heck if you bug them enough they may just get tired and let you go on through with it. Keep the faith and it may well come your way.. I will just about bet you a buck that if you do get the surgery done and get the first fifty pounds off you will have a new policy for what healthy is. I just thought I was doing o****il I finished up my third month a week or so ago and I was no where close to being healthy. I am just awaiting the next fifty or so pounds loss to see if I can still start up running. This surgery is not the do all answer to all weight problems but it can be one hell of a tool to help out in recovering from excessive eating disorder. See now it could be considered a disease like the measles. I was a complusive eater and was well on my way to ending my days alot earlier than I had planned..
