Melissa is doing a happy dance!! & needs a few ?s answered
Some of you know that I have a huge hernia that was caused by an accident prone gall bladder removal surgery. Well in the last few weeks it has been givingme some problems. Pain and morepain to be exact. That and it looks like I was blessed with 3 ummm "girls" lol.Anyways I called the doctor yesterday to let them know I needed a prescription for Nexium for my ulcer and just told them the hernia seemed to be hurting here lately. The nurse is on vacation so the lady who answered the phone said she would call me back after she talked to the doc. Well she called back in like 3 mins and told me to be there today at 10. Wow I thought. So I go in and when the doc walks in he says and I quote"wow" . That sent a big smile across my face! So we discussed howmuch I had lost, was I strugglig any , and some other what not stuff. Then I tell him about the pain I have been having. He looks at my stomach, pushes on the hernia(omg that hurt like heck!) And then looks at me and says he sees no reason why we cant go ahead and fix it and remove the excess skin in the process.I swear my jaw hit the table! After he poked and pushed and picked up skin(ewww) he said he felt like I had lost the majority of my abdomen weight. He said some other things but I was in shock and cant remember all of it! LOL I figured this would takes years from my surgery. So now I have to wait for the nurse to get back from vacation and then she is supposed to write letter and take some pics of my flab and send them to the insurance company.I honestly can not wait! I am so excited. Now I just got to keep my fingers crossed the insurance will aprove. And if anyone has any ideas on what I can do to help them make their decision I am all ears.Dealing with the insurance is new for me as when I was having my RNY it was no questions asked they approved right away. Thanks for listening. Ya'll are down right the best bunch of folks!

Hi Melissa,
Congratulations!!! I think that as long as they structure the skin removal as part of the medically necessary procedure it might fly. You might want to cross post this to the RNY, Main and Insurance forums to see if anyone has any specific suggestions. You might also want to indicate who your insurer is because it seems to vary from insurer to insurer and then within an insurer, it seems to vary somewhat by which policy you have with that insurer and if your employer has any specific exclusions.
Wishing you all the best as you get the hernia resolved.

Melissa,
When that rash comes back, do not self treat it. I know it seems silly, but you need to go see the Dr and have them document the rash and prescribed treatment, even if that treatment is OTC. Do this each and every time you get the rash. I know it seems ridiculous, but it is part of what the insurance needs to do a medical necessity determination.

I have no advice (sorry), but I am so excited for you! What a great surprise! You'll get to get rid of the hernia and pain, not to mention getting rid of extra skin - what a dream!!!
Congrats and good luck, I hope everything goes smoothly! Get it? Smoothly? As in, you'll have a smooth abdomen?!? Hahahahaha, I crack myself up!
