I know we all go through stalls and I was going through a pretty rough one. I was still losing weight but it was like a pound or 2 a week. I was very disgusted and very depressed. Well last week the scale started moving again. I don't know what I did any different but I lost 8 lbs in one week!!! I couldnt believe it! I havent had a loss like that since June. It felt good to see that scale moving.I was scared that I was misreading it or the thing was broke but it keeps reading the same over and over. My goal was 250 by Christmas Day which will be 10 months post op. With this last weeks loss I am at 264....only 14 more lbs to go before Christmas.I sure hope it keeps up. My doctors goal is 225..I dont know when he wants me there but I would love to be there by my one year on February 25th. Anyways I just wanted to share and let all those suffering through stalls and slow loss it can get better! I just feel like runnign around the house. Yesterday I even got out and threw the football with my son.AND RAN after it!! I havent run or jogged since I was in high school! Way Cool!!!

Hi Melissa,

Congratulations on your breakthrough!!! I have to say that thought I was sailing along a 1 to 2 lb loss a week, but when you start out as a light weight, you just don't lose as much on a week to week basis. It really is great to see when the 'dam' breaks finally and the pounds start moving again. You normally can expect to see it slow, stall, move, slow, stall, move ... for a few more months at least. Keep up the work and you'll likely see that special Christmas Gift of 250 that you are looking for.

Wishing you continued success,

Barb

Thanks Barb. Yeah I by no means was a lightweight so I had a hard time when the weight just kinda came to a crawl. You get so used to seeing the pounds fly off and when they stop itis heart breaking. I went through a bit of depression since August. I feel more energized now and ready to tackle the weight loss thing again.

Thanks again
Melissa

Hi Melissa,

Even though I was a lightweight and the number of pounds I was loosing was proportionately different ... like 8 lbs in one month was a lot for me and when I slowed, I slowed to 3 to 5 lbs a month... I think that the overall percentages are similar. Meaning that you drop about 60 percent of the excess weight that you are going to lose within the first 6 months or so and then it takes another 6 to 10 months to lose the balance of the excess weight you are going to lose. I know that I had multiple times when I seriously doubted if I would get to my own goal, much less the one that my Dr had set. I honestly never thought that I'd get down to where I am now.

You are so right about how it can affect your mood, even falling over to depression.  I think that we have so much vested in making the most of this opportunity and have heard so much a one year window that when the weight loss stops or stalls, all of those old fears really start to rear their ugly heads. That said, you are really doing a great job and I think that you will make your goal. Just keep up the work ... You've got the tool and during this first year or so, you have that 'magic' window of opportunity to let the WLS do it's work to help you along, but remember that no matter what, we, like Andrea U will always have the 'tool' at our disposal and will always be able to leverage it to get and keep our weight under control.

All the best,

Barb

Wow - Melissa - what a great loss... I'll be in your cheering corner that your goal is met !

I know what you mean, though, I have seen the same numbers over and over for weeks and finally I saw a loss this past week.  4 pounds!  I am 12 away from my personal goal to be in wunderland....Increased my exercise and still no budge until this past week.

Have a great week !

Melissa that's great on the big weight loss! I'm down 36 lbs in 34 days and feel like with me not hardly eating or drinking anything it should be leaving my body alot faster, I lost like 20 lbs right in the beginning but now its not that much if figured up by the week. Do you have any advice on how I can get this protein supplements in because I'm failing at it all, just can't seem to get them in and I'm still having problems sometimes with throwing up. I don't want to end up sick because I can't get in what my body needs. I have all kinds of protein drinks that I've ordered by as soon as I start to drink them I just feel like I'm so full. Anyway keep up the good work.

Hey Cindy. 36 lbs in 34 days is great! You should be very proud of that number. It will come off with time. I know I whined and cried over it since august but I really feel positive now. As for the protein I think that is such a widely talked about subject. I think everyone is different. As for me I drink  low carb slim fast. They come in chocolate and vanilla. I like the vanilla. Before surgery Iliked the chocolate but not now ewww. Anyways they have 20 g of protein and only 2 net carbs. They are only 11 ounces and kinda feel like milk when you drink it. I havent had any problems with them. I am sure someone probably doesnt like them because Ifeel the same way about the protein bullets. Those things make me gag! Even if I dilute it and put it Crystal lite...which I no longer drink Crystal lite I switched to SF Kool-Aid LOL I am a kid at heart I guess but the Kool Aid doesnt leave the after taste that the Crystal lite does.Anyways...I drink only one of the Slim Fast a day now. I do it in the morning when my pouch is the emptiest so I can get it down .Then 2 hours later I eat a Adkins protein bar. Some of them have 17 g in them so I have 37 g of protein in by 9 am most days.Thay have the least carbs and taste the best to me so far.I was and still ama very picky eater. But then I get the rest of my protein from what ever is for dinner. I was drinking a no sugar added Instant breakfast at nite but I havent in the last week and wonder if that is what helped the weight loss jump again.I dont know but I dont want to jinx anything LOL.Ihopethis helps. Are you planning on going to the support group meeting at Cape Fear ? Is it Wednesday? My husband is working in Morehead City and staying overnight so I dont know if he will be home to watch the  kids but if he happens to come home I wantd to go. I have never been to one there. Anyways sorry so long, I like to ramble sometimes.

Thanks Melissa for the info and I'm the one that can half way get the bullet in but usually only 1/2 of the 42 grams a day and I know that's not enough. Plain water makes me sick and I used to love water, milk makes me gag. Helen told me to start the soft/puree stage but I swear everything I've tried has came back up. Like I made a boiled egg and mashed it up Sat and that didn't stay down. Yesterday after church we went to Red Robin and you know everything there is fried and lots of fat but I did talk them into giving me the salmon from the salmon burger and had a little salsa on it and ate one little piece and did fine, but last night I was going to eat another one because they still charged me full price and I didn't want to waste it and I ate some and the next thing I knew I was throwing it back up and I had that same pain in the pouch that I thought I got fixed last week and today still not feeling so well. I've had a small V8 juice, a little protein and some coffee but that's it. Btw I am proud of the 36 lbs but like I said the most came off in the beginning and maybe I'm not losing as fast because I'm not eating or drinking? Has your hair fallen out any yet? I know mine seems to be falling out a little bit more than usual in the shower but I thought it was to early to start losing my hair. Yes I'm going to the support group on Wednesday and its at 6:30pm on the 3 rd floor. I went in Sept before surgery but that is the only one I've been to. I know Dr. Harris has one as well, have you ever been to that one?
Okay as you can see I love to talk as well lol. If you ever want to chat on the phone send me an e-mail and I'll give you my numbers. Hope to see ya Wednesday!

Hugs,
Cindy
