High protein food finds

First of all when i was up in Michigan, my sis had South Beach cereal bars for snacks.  I looked at the nutritional info and decided they make a great breakfast.  They are 140 calories with 12 g of protein.  I have tried the almond cranberry and cinnamon raisin and they are both good.   Since I am an eat on the run type of gal in the morning, they work out great.

Find no. 2.  A gal at work was at a Health food store (but doesn't remember where) and picked up some Healthwise Taco Cheese protein bites.   These are light like a cheese puff and good for afternoon munchies and protein.  A whole bag is 1.054 ounces and is 120 calories, 12 g of protein and only 3 g of fat (none of which is trans).   The only problem is i have been having trouble locating them.   I finally called the company at 1-800-395-8931  and found a few diet docs in my area that sell it.    I also emailed Charlie at Nutrahealthy on Friday with the info and he already emailed me back on Saturday that he has contacted them for info.   I will pick some up and try to bring to the Raleigh meet up on the 15th so you can sample.   They are probably the best find for a snack that i have had so far.   I do not like any of the protein supps and love to chew so these were a perfect fit for me.

Hope these help you,

Pam

Costco has gotten in some Zone diet nutrition bars that have 12 grams of Protein and only 22 grams of carbs. They are 190 calories. But here's the good part.........They taste awesome! They are dark chocolate and chew down really well so I can eat the whole bar slowly. Some days its hard to get all the protein in when I am running around all day and I can keep these in my purse. They have the plain and the almonds and weren't priced that badly. Costco also carries a peanut butter flavored from the same maker but I don't really like those cause I don't exactly like peanut butter.

I ck'd the carbs on the South Beach and they are only 15.   Since i am further out and trying to stick to 1000 calories a day, South Beach saves me 70 calories over Zone.  I have tried the Zone and also like them but didn't like the calories.   I think South Beach has choc (per my sis) but i love the cinnamon raisin and almond with cranberry.    Thanks for sharing.

I agree with you on the South Beach breakfast bars.  I have been eating the cinnamon/raison ones for months.  They are great!  Breakfast seems to be one of my toughest meals to get protein in and these really help.

My biggest thing is i get up at 520, shower and get dressed and out of the house by 550 so no time for breakfast unless i eat on the run. About 9 i also eat a light yogurt to keep me going until lunch.

We are HUGE fans of the SBD bars.  The cinnamon raisin one is almost like having a cinnamon bun treat...my 9yo LOVES them!  Haven't seen the other bites you were talking about but they sound really good too.

My nutritionist suggested I try the Pure Protein bars.  I got some last night from Walgreens.  They also have them at WalMart.  The chockolate peanut butter ones are:
Calories 190
Fat 6 g (3 saturated)
Carbs 17g
Fiber 1 g
Protein 20g
They also have a lot of vitamins.  (I won't bore you with all the details)

I am not much of a bar fan so as for taste, I can only say I can eat these.
Hugs! Donna L (finding_me) - I just know I'm here somewhere...
