Sugar free BBQ sauce

My nut told me to use BBQ sauce on chicken to help moisten it. I can't find any  sugar free or anything close. I was wondering what others have used if any. Has any one seen a sf bbq sauce? Thanks for the help.

Ummm...I use regular BBQ sauce!! I LOVE BBQ sauce!!
Give it a small taste!! If your pouch can tolerate it, the little amount that you will end up having, will not kill you!!

Hi Jeff,

I use KC Masterpiece Low Cal version called "Classic Blend" that just has 10 Calories. It's great and isn't likely to bother you.

I also 'marinate' chicken or pork chops in buttermilk to tenderize it. You can also put it between to pieces of waxed paper and pound it thin to about 1/4 inch. Doing both will make it really tender.

Good luck,

Barb

I had to switch to ranch dressing instead. I keep thinking I will invent some sugar free stuff but part of the problem is what the sugar or sugar based syrup does to the meat while it is being cooked. I did not want to start out with corn syrup or starch to get the glazing right because its just as bad in the digestive track as sugar for alot of people. If I want sweet I usually get some honey mustard. It is very low in sugar and still has a good sweet taste to it. If you live in Georgia its and easy fix.. Just get some dry rub and vinegar and wala there ya go. Im not much on that since I was raised up on sweet sauce. If you like ranch dressing its a good dip as well. If not try this out I swear it goes with everything and is not high in sugar. Get a bit spoonfull of Mayo in a small bowl add about a table spoon of ketchup and a dash of Whostershire sauce. You can add Horse radish or sugar free relish if you want to change it up a bit. Stir till it turns sort of a wierd pink color and Chicken and Seafood will never be the same again. You might want to try putting some dry rub in the mayo and ketchup mixture to see if it works for a bar be que sauce as well. A bit of sugar free relish juice would sweeten it up some. Just some ideas for you to toss around. Good luck and have fun trying out for BBQ man of the year.

Jeff,

You need to experiment until you find one that you like.

I have made my own using McCormicks BBQ Seasonings, a couple of drops of liquid smoke,  Crushed red pepper, Splenda, tomato paste and just a bit of vinegar for a little bite.  Use water to get the texture right.

I couldn't tell you how much of what. I am a little bit of this and little bit of that, tasting as I go along.  When it taste right BBQ!!!

Hope this helps,

I just use ketchup. I have never seen a SF BBQ sauce. I have avoided BBQ sauce for several years because of diabetes and now I still eat like I have diabetes even though it is under control LOL!

Jeff,

Check out www.netrition.com.  Awesome variety of low carb high protein products.  Search the site for 'Sugar Free Barbecue Sauce'.  I use the Jok'n'Al products.  Very tasty.  Have also tried Walden Farms.  Waldens is decent but a little on the thin side so I add a tablespoon of Heinz one carb ketchup to it.  Jok'n'als is the best though.  This is a pretty cool site.  They ship from NY.  Usually arrives in NC within 2 days.  No tax and shipping is $4.95 flat rate regardless of how much you order.

I have had no problems with regular BBQ sauce, but if you are looking for SF, you might want to check out the section of the grocery store where they keep the foods for diabetics.  Foodlion here in Pitt County usually have a small section devoted to SF foods.  You could also try some of the vinegar based sauces and add a little ketchup to thicken it up some.  But try the regular stuff first and see how your pouch tolerates it.

Good luck.  Alice
