Those of you *****member..I went to Voc rehab today & met with a wonderful lady who will be handling my case.(I have no insurance)

I'm kind of depressed about it.

The requirements are 40% BMI..which I am

AND 2 or more sickness or disease..I'm pretty healthy believe it or not. but prob not for long

my family history:
DAD - MO-heart disease-5 heart bypass-diabetic-shots everyday-kidney stones-gout-arthritis-high blood pressure & cholesterol
MOM-high BP & cholesteol-arthitis-gerd-severe back & leg problems-kidney stones
OLDER SISTER-MO-high BP & Chloesteol-gerd-edema
2ND SISTER-Morbid obese-high BP & chloesteol-gerd-kidney stones-arthitis

sooooo I think it's crazy I have to be sick in order to be eligible for surgery...Im trying to PREVENT all of the family history...

I may not ever have those problems but I still can't breathe or do things like others can. I can't even put on my shoes & socks without help...how sad is that?

Im short of breathe all the time
I could make a long list, but you guys know all about it..Im just upset that I can't have surgery bc I'm not sick.I guess Im just venting...sorry guys

I wonder if I applied for medicaid if it would be different?
any advice??

I'm not familiar with Voc Rehab requirements, but that seems odd.  Most programs and insurance companies require either 1) a BMI of 40 or higher or 2) a BMI of 35 or higher with co-morbidities (sicknesses).  You might want to look into that further.  I'm sure other's will chime in that are more knowledgeable about medicaid, but I'd be willing to bet their requirements would be the same as I mentioned above...that's pretty standard today.

Don't give up. See if you can have a sleep study and do you have frequent heartburn? Even mild sleep apnea and frequent heartburn requiring meds are co morbidities. If you have heartburn then instead of treating it your self get a prescription from the docs for it and document it. I made the mistake of just using OTC meds for years and suffered. Once I finally got medical treatment I was helped and it helped my case for surgery as well.

Try cross-posting to the Main, Insurance and surgery type forums. You'll be casting a larger net and likelly to find someone who has specific experience with your situtation.

Good luck,
