December surgery and planning Christmas questions

I am hoping to hear from those who had surgeries in December.  I am going to be done with my pre-op checklist right about Thanksgiving and am hoping to have my surgery in December as long as the nutritionist and psychologist approve me going for it asap.  I am trying to figure out what all I need to do before the surgery as far as Chrsitmas goes and easy ideas of things DH can make for our teens to eat Christmas day since I am would be on liquids and not about to cook a holiday meal while healing up.  So far, I am thinking I should have the decorations done, tree up, presents wrapped and under it (haha, right, since we often figure out last minute gifts for the boys and end up wrapping Christmas Eve)...what am I missing thinking of?  I have only come up with a simple shepherds pie for DH to make so far, my boys love that idea since we did it one year when we were totally broke and we made it a traditional thing since it had to do with shepherds LOL.  Anyone been through this and have some simple ideas for them?  Anyone that did this sort of timing, I would love to hear anything you can tell me to help that is related to it being a holiday.

My husband Ben will have his surgery 12/11 and unfortunately he'll still be on liquids at Christmas. We probably will just roast a turkey breast, have a baked sweet potato and dinner rolls with a salad. That way I can bake everything at once, no big mess. I'll probably make him some turkey soup broth to enjoy.

Good luck ... let us Know when your date is.

I had my surgery in August but I've been giving the holidays a lot of thought. I have two teenagers and we've decided to do things differently this year. there will be no focus on food. They're getting a baked chicken and box of stove top stuffing as the main meal. We've decided to go snow skiing for  afew days at Christmas. Thanksgiving is going to be a service project of some sort. Still trying to work out the details on that one.

However you decide to celebrate the holidays - keep it simple. Enjoy your family and take comfort in knowing that you're giving them the best gift possible - a healthier, happier you.

Ooh, I like the idea of the stove top stuffing since I know that is something my husband can make.  The turkey or chicken idea is where I am lost on what to have him do for the boys, which is why I mentioned the shepherds pie to him.  The big things are things i cook, he makes things that are more from a box or the such.  I love the idea of a turkey broth type thing for him to make for me, though.  I have to keep things simple because of him not knowing how to cook a lot of things (hamburger helpers are a huge thing he makes), but I also would like the kids to have a supper that isn't the same thing he will make every other night until I feel like cooking for them again LOL.

Once I have a date, I will be sure to post it.  I am looking forward to possibly having it done at that time of the year so I can sit back and enjoy watching instead of having to be the one doing everything hehe.
