Lucky is still with us

Lucky seems to be holding his own.
At 4am I felt like today was the day but Luck rallyed again.
In fact he wanted to go on the walk this morning.
I am in constant contact with Ana and the main thing is she feels Luck has cancer or a large tumor.
We want Luck as comfortable as possible and I dont want him suffering.
After our walk he was happy to have his food and wagged his tail several times.
I made a promise to Luck this morning that I will continue to walk and take care of myself.
I did not think it was possible to have so many tears.
I have cried many times the past 24 hours and probally will continue to have crying episodes.
Thank you everyone for thier kind loving thoughts.
This is some rough stuff.

Hi Annie,
I missed your earlier post about Lucky... I am so sorry you are experiencing this pain.  I have been through it many times and repetition doesn't make it any easier.  We are blessed to be given this gift of stewardship over our pets and we receive so much in exchange for what we do, that we fear those gifts will never be with us again.  But nature abhors a vacuum and the empty space finds a way to fill again.  The time in between is the hard part.  A big part of our responsibilities as good stewards is to make their departures as smooth and merciful and pain-free as possible.  You are doing that for Lucky and I know you are aware of what a privilege it is to be able to do that for him.  Blessings to you and Lee and to all the babies.  You will know when it is time.  He will tell you.  I love you, Annie.

Thanks Suzanne,
You are so right in we as humans have been given the gift of stewardship.
I keep looking and watching for a sign from Luck.
I want him to be able to transition smoothly without fear.
My friend who is into holistic vet health gave me some valium for him but I had to stop that because of the side effect of laboured breathing.
I do have him on aspirin therapy which is helping.

Yes, the aspirin will definitely help... make sure it's a coated aspirin or some kind of buffered aspirin to avoid stomach irritation.

I use enteric coated aspirin and always give with food.

Annie,

Our dear Sampson, our 17.5 year old yellow lab, had cancer that invaded his back and we were able to treat him with pain meds for an extended period of time and that allowed him a significant amount of time and relief from pain. When we could no longer effectively manage his pain or the cancer, we had him gently euthanized. I guess what I'm trying to say, is that even if he is ill, you may be able to have quality time with him where he is not in pain and is able to enjoy time with you on walks, by your side, etc...

I'm so sorry for the pain and angst that you are suffering,

Barb
