I know this has probably been asked many times so I apologize in advance......

The last couple of days I have been so tired and I know I am not getting enough fluids beyond my protein shakes. I try to drink water or CL as much as I can but it seems sooooo heavy in my pouch. Am I doing something wrong? I am afraid I am getting dehydrated....and why am I so bloated?

Hi Jane,
I had my surgery on 10/22/08 and I was informed it can take about 3 weeks before I regain my  full strength back.  Please get more fluids, I got very dehydrated this week and almost passed out.   I sip water throughout the day and try not to gulp :).  Hope you feel better.

((((Jane)))),

I'm so sorry that you are having a hard time. Be sure to keep a measured bottle with you and work on getting 4 to 6 ounces an hour of water or CL in beyond your 2 ounces an hour of protien shake. It is SOOOO important. They say that the biggest reason folks end up back in the hospital is dehydration. You don't want that to happen. Just keep sipping constantly, even if you don't feel like it. It's very important.

Wishing you all the best,

Barb

P.S. If you continue to have difficulty, please call your Dr.

Try drinking room temp drinks or hot tea - I found that warmer liquids relaxed my pouch and allowed me to drink more. Its getting cooler out so its the perfect time for good hot teas/sf cocoas!

You are feeling the effects of surgery and the anesthesia so its normal... it will all pass in time - make sure you are walk walk walking that will help with the bloating, as for being tired that should pass in time - just keep up with your protein/vits/supps/water!

Thanks so much everyone! My DH came home early yesterday and started filling me full of warm tea........actually timing my sips and refilling my cup when it was empty. He had noticed that, in the last couple days, my fluid intake slowed and my activity decreased and I was falling asleep alot. I am not sure why this happened because I was going along very well.
This morning I woke up feeling great and full of energy. I think it helped that I was able to use the bathroom.
It's only a little before 10am and DH has called me four times to see if I am sipping and walking. LOL
Thank you all for your suggestions and encouragement.
Big hugzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Totally normal what you are going through like the others said warm tea or sf cocoa felt a lot better to me after I had my surgery. Cold drinks didnt sit well at all. Try sipping as much water as you can and make sure you are getting up and walking! and yes I am sure it felt good to use the bathroom hang in there!!!!
