Having to make hard choices

My old dog named Lucky is having a hard time.
Luck is around 15-17 Lee and I saved him from being abandoned by my ex about 6 years ago.
Luck is fearful of men and always stays very close to me.

The other night at the party I met a new nieghbor who is a holistic vet tech.
Luck has been having seizures frequently the past weekend.
Last night he had another one and Matt went to go get Anna who came up and we gave Luck some valium to help him relax.
I have asked Anna if she could help Luck pass on when it is time.
She has to ask her boss if she can do it at our home.
Both Anna and I feel Luck has cancer and his time is soon.
As a responsible pet owner it is my job to not let Luck not suffer any more.
My heart is so sad this morning knowing my best walking buddy wont be with me much longer.
Also when I am in my home gym Luck always waits for me to do my workout.
Between my dogs and my bird and cat I feel in someway they are there to walk with me on my weight loss journey.

Oh Annie - I'm so sorry. I too love my fur babies and I dread the day that I lose my Gusser Dog. He's been with me for so long and through so much. His vision is going bad but he is the love of my life.

Take comfort my friend in knowing that you've given him this many good years.

Hi Annie,

I'm so sorry for your pain. I know from the loss of our own dogs, this kind of a loss is incredibly hard. Be sure to take some photos of Luck as he waits for you while you work out etc... He will always be with you.

Annie, I am sorry you are having to make these decisions.  We have a 16 yo miniture poodle that is starting to have some problems also.  She is blind and deaf already.  I am dreading having to put her down also.  Good luck.

Annie,

I know this is hard for you. We had to put our 16 year old dog down a couple of years ago. That was the hardest thing to do. Fiesty went down really fast, he seemed fine one day then the next he was not putting weight on one leg so we took him in and the vet did some test and found he had a tumor on his heart, he said to take him home and love on him and to think about what we wanted to do. he was having a hard time breathing that night so we knew what we had to do. Tha next day we gave him his favorite food(shrimp and carrots). It was so hard. 2 months later we got 2 new puppies and we had them about 5 days and they got parvo we named them Double Trouble. Double was the runt and after they were at the vets for a week double died. whch was bad enough but since we had lost Fiesty a few weeks before that it was even harder. When the time comes you will know. I will keep you in my prayers and thoughts.

Annie,
I wish our fur friends could stay with us always but they don't. When they go they take with them the knowlege that we loved them every minute they were with us and that they had a good life because of it. When its Luck's time he will go happy he had you. I am sorry that you will have to miss him.

Annie, your post is making me cry. You will know when the time will be right. If he is in pain a lot, or the quality of his life is gone, you need to do what you need to do-out of love for him. It is good you have wonderful sounding vet/friends there to help Luck and you through this.  I dread the day when my big girls athritis claims her legs and she can not walk anymore.

Big hugs and prayers to you today........

Oh Annie.  I am so sorry.  It's such a heartbreak, I know.  I am with you...I can't bare to let my pets ever suffer...and I totally and completely understand when you say that your pets have been there to walk with you on your weightloss journey.  I am already comforted to know that Maddie will be here 24/7 for me and I am so relieved to have Viv now too.  I couldn't imagine doing this without a kitty.  Some people may not understand when I say that, but I love knowing that you do.  {{{Hugs}}}} sweetie.  Give Luck a smoochy for me.

Annie,
I know how you feel. My GSD has cancer. The vet gave her a year to live. She has lived two. Her time is growing short and I know I will be putting her down soon, but it still hurts to think about it. I am sorry for both of your pain and for your coming loss.
God Bless
