What is wrong with me?? I want to eat all day long!!  Does that time of the month have anything to do with it? I constantly open the cupboards and fridge and just look!! Most of the time I walk away with nothing, but just a few minutes ago, I walked away with a bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios..YIKES!!! Yeah, I don't feel so hot right now!! I cannot be doing this...Has anyone else went through this around 7 to 8 months post op?? Is this normal and how can i fix it?? And YES I have a huge glass of ice water right next to me!! I hope I do not fall into self sabatoge habits!!

This may or may not be considered a good idea however my wife and I both at times get what we call head hunger. I had it bad prior to surgery and still have episodes. I know alot of doctors dont want us to chew gum. I do when the head hunger gets there and then get as far away from the frig and doing something that does not require eating or sitting still all the time. Last summer I closed in my attic and built a little place for computer and musical stuff so now its a set of stairs that keeps me from raiding the frig. I just refuse to eat anything with alot of sugar in it mainly because of diabetic issues but for some reason it seems to drive my brain right to the edge of mania for eating. If gum is not an option maybe something more solid that would require alot of chewing up and filling the pouch up more would help. Im sure more people will have some other ideas as well. I can certainly understand that urge to nibble up and down the pantry.

Hey Jami.I know what you are going thru but I think it has something to do with that time of the month. For like the last 2 months Ihave felt like that the week b4 then it subsides and I actually go back to not wanting anything to eat. Sometimes Ihave to force myself to eat. It's crazy! I don't have any suggestions as to what to do cause I have a habit of grabbin the nearest cheez its. If you find away to make it go away by all means share!

Good luck

I am so worried about this exact thing! I keep making notes of all the little tricks to help fool your mind into thinking you are really not as hungry as you think. This is one of my biggest fears after I have my surgery. Especially the hormonal issue... Yikes... I am really worried about that one!

MSN just did an article about metabolism myths and facts - one of the facts was that during a womans time of the month our metabolism revs up and on average we burn an *additional* 300 calories a day! That is why we are wanting to eat... well that and hormones. I am on seasonique and only get 4 periods a year - during those times I personally 'give in' to my cravings (within reason of course) and just eat a little more than normal... if not its not pretty - seems the additional calories help my cramping as well as my horrible mood :-)

Unfortunately, I had to delete this post due to privacy concerns.

Got a lap band in 2008. Tried hard, but didn't lose much weight & developed swallowing problems. Fought my insurance company for almost a year & finally had a band to DS revision on 5/11/12. Have now lost 125 pounds. Yay!

Wow, I go through this every month or so and I'm too old for a TOM any more!  But I have a theory.  I think there is still something in my head that thinks I don't 'deserve' to be thin!  Always in the past when I lost weight I KNEW I was gonna regain, because I was just supposed to be fat.  So now, whenever I get to a low spot in my weight loss, I slack off the exercise, and begin with the 'bad' snacking!  This goes on til I have regained a couple of pounds and I get ahold of myself.  Then I get back to the gym, stop buying crap I know I shouldn't eat, and start the downhill slide again.  In the past, I would not have been able to stop me!  I used to think it was a plateau, but I have analyzed the pattern over the past few months and gotten honest with myself and I think it is self-sabotage.  I am going to accept my behavior, and know that I do deserve to be thin, and the longer I keep my weight down, I will prove it to myself.

((((Jami)))),

Your concern about it is a good thing. I have found that I have some rules that I follow that help some ... Always have lean protien first, Always have complex carbs second, Only eat sitting at the table ... Log everything I eat (when I am struggling I log what I'm going to eat before I eat it... taking the time to enter it helps sometimes)...

One of the things that can trigger hunger is simple carbs...processed foods, sugar, etc.  If you find those creeping back into your diet, try to cut back and see if that helps.  Wishing you the BEST!

I really think it's got something to do with the weather and the seasons. I find myself just standing in front of the pantry looking in. then I wander over to the fridge and peep in there for a few minutes. So far I've avoided acting on this urge to eat but dern it - it's hard not to.

Let me know if you come up with any good ways to avoid this  - Iris
