Back from the hospital

I just got home from the hospital and didn't find out much other than my pouch is doing good and they think its GERD but I've never had any pain like this. I didn't do blood work or nothing just had me to go to x-ray and do a barium drinking test and it showed that everything was good. Then I had to think Maalox with some numbing medience to see if helped with the pain and wanting to throw up and I guess it helped a little so that's how he came to the GERD. Of course he said I needed to talk with Dr. Miles to see what he thinks and was also told to take Maalox before and after each meal. So we will see how tomorrow is.

Cindy - you got a GI ****tail - made with Maalox, lidocaine, and donnatal... coats your digestive tract and if the pain goes away then they think it is GERD - that is why doctors are *practicing medicine* - they are just making a guess !

Hope you start feeling better soon.

Hi Shelia,

Yeah I know they are just making a guess. I tried taking the Maalox and it came right back up. They put me on Nexium after surgery but I was taking Prevaid before and think I'm going to switch back and see if that helps.

Cindy,

I am glad it was not anything wrong with your pouch.  GERD is awful and I take an acifex every morning and that usually takes care of me.  I had it before surgery and it has ot gone away!  It does seem to help if I take tiny bites and chew until it is liquid, but I have always been a fast eater and still have trouble on occasion. It seems to be worse when I let myself get really hungary, sooooo...... my game plan lately has been is to not let myself get really hungary.  I will keep some LF cheese and/or yogurt or somethiing on hand to nibble on if I start to get hungary and it is helping me not overeat!!!  Got a bag packed with protien bars or individually wrapped portions of cheese, Nabs or something that I can grab in a hurry!  Trying to plan ahead.

Hope this takes care of things for you.  Sending hugs and Prayers.

Thanks Vera. I tried taking the Maalox and threw it right back up. I've been on Nexium since surgery but I was taking Prevaicd (spell) before and going to switch back and see if that helps.

Band to DS

Unfortunately, I had to delete this post due to privacy concerns.

Got a lap band in 2008. Tried hard, but didn't lose much weight & developed swallowing problems. Fought my insurance company for almost a year & finally had a band to DS revision on 5/11/12. Have now lost 125 pounds. Yay!

They gave me STP Oil Treatment for my xray. At least it tasted like what I would think STP would. Its a shame they cant flavor it to taste like Filet Mignon or a Choclate shake. We go through all this surgery and then hurt then you at least got some mint flavored concoction. At least now you are on the way to a new life with alot less of you to come. Maybe some of us should call it fading. The pain should be gone in a week or so. if you had the drain thing that took me the longest to heal up. As you get better it will heal up fine its just got the sensative right now. I still take some pill to keep down the irritation but its a small price to pay. best wishes on the recovery and the next couple of liquid weeks. It should work out fine in the long run.

Thanks for the support. I'm now on the soft/puree diet and I had tuna with light mayo tonight and done fine but when I tried drinking the Maalox it hurt, so I never know what is going to cause the pain. Hopefully my doctor can help me out Tuesday when I see him.

I know what you mean about trying out stuff. Its weird my wife cant stand some of the stuff I think I survive on. I cant eat sausage anymore even if it is really lean and cooked up well. However fish for some reason was something I could take or leave and mostly leave but I honestly like it alot better. I would suggest to get as creative as you can when you get to try other stuff. Some of the very things you may not have cared for may well get top billing in the long run. I think I was overjoyed with my first egg. Tuna and Mayo is really good too. I ate my first grilled tuna a month or so ago and loved it. My wifes pouch flares up about once a week and she has to take stuff for it but it seems to get better and she is two years out. She will tell you its a small price to pay for the alternative.
