I know I sound like a broken record here but

I'm getting sick and tired of getting things like pills stuck in my pouch and it hurting like hell and then throwing up and feel blah afterwards. I just don't understand I was doing fine with taking the same pills in the beginning but now for the last week pills and food have gotten stuck and makes me sick. It's almost 1:30pm and I haven't gotten any food in and what little protein shake I had has came back up. I did take the rest of my pills and crushed them and put into a protein drink but its to soon to drink it because of the pain but I have two pills that are capsules and I can't crush them. If anybody out there has any advice on how to get pass this, let me know. Thanks

Cindy

I'm not sure that at a month out from surgery you should be trying to swallow any type of pill.  I would wait until 3-6 months out before trying that.  You are still quite swollen from surgery, that takes time to heal.  Try sticking to chewables, or chewing up the non-chewable ones anyway, for the time being.  Nasty, I know, but it won't get stuck.

I would call my doc on monday if you are still unable to keep even liquids down as you might have a stricture developing.  That is where the opening at the top, or bottom, of your stoma is too tight to let anything pass.  They might have to take a look at that.

Take care.

Thanks Ellen for the advice, and I did call the nurse yesterday and I have an appt for my one month out on Tuesday. I was told from the beginning I could take pills and up until the last week I've been fine with it.

Hi Cindy,

I hate that you are having such a time with your new pouch.  I know when I ran out of liquid tylenol I used my mortar and pestle to crush the pills. They were nasty but I got 'em down.  I would talk to my dr about chewables or liquid.  It is amazing how something that was fine all of a sudden isn't but we will have to adjust!

Thanks Vera,
I just got back from the hospital and was told the pouch looked good with no leaks or any closings and they think its GERD,
