Question about admittance to hospital

When we're admitted to the hospital, are we able to bring our things to our room first or do we not get our room until after surgery? Just wondering 'cuz I don't wanna lug my stuff in and Michael have to drag it around till I'm done. Thanks.

At my hospital the hubby will have to carry it around with him. The thing I'm most paranoid about is not being able to wear my retainers. Silly, I know. But I just spent a lot of money to get my teeth lookin' good and just got braces off last month. Right now I have to wear my retainers all the time except when eating. If I leave them off for an hour and put them back in I can tell they are a little tight. So my husband is under strict orders to have my retainers ready and the yucky swabs to moisten my mouth as soon as I get to my room. I dare anyone to tell me I can't wear them. LOL.

Hubby will have to lug it around :-)

Just take bare necessities in with you-- basically what you are wearing. You will not get a room until you are out of surgery-- and then depending on when a room is available; hopefully immediately! My hubby took everything to the car (my clothes/shoes, etc) just after they said "goodbye" to me and then when I got in the room and settled, he brought everything up. You probably won't feel like doing much other than pushing your morphine pump  just after surgery.

I was told at Pre Op that I would not have a room assignment till after surgery. When they took me from PACU hubby was in my room with all my crap he left everything in the car and they gave him a beeper and beeped him to let him know I was out of surgery so he could go get my things.

Your DH will prob. have to lug your diddy bag around.  You don't need much stuff. I did  use my bathrobe and slippers. I did not have time to read my mags or watch my DVD's but I had them. Have a loose outfit to wear home....I gained 15 lbs of fluid in hosp. so my loose outfit was not as loose as I thought it was. I'm sooooo excited for you.  Your times a comin. HG Myrtis

I went in with just what I was wearing and they gave me a bag to put that in, which my husband took to the car.  Once I was out of recovery and headed to my room, he went to the car and got everything and took it to my room.  The room wasn't assigned until after I was out of surgery, so there was no place to take it until I was ready to go there myself. 

I agree with everyone above.  Just bring yourself to admittance and ask the hubby when you get to your room to go get your things out of the car.   The countdown is on now for you!!  I'm very excited for you girl!  Connie
