How's your thermostadt?

The getting cold part, I can understand. The overheating part is almost like hot flashes I had while going through menopause. Hard to know.

It is strange to always be getting cold though, isn't it? It's an annoyance I am more than willing to live though.

I don't have the ups and downs, I'm just always cold.  And I mean cold!  My nose, fingers and toes never seem to warm up.  I just stand in the shower soaking up the heat, and always get so sad when it's time to get out.  My neices and nephew made me a fleece blanket for Christmas and it is my best friend!  I wish I could take it everywhere with me!   As for time, I asked the same question last month on the RNY board, and the answers varied.  Some said it will improve, but there were also plenty of people that said it was a permanent thing.  I hope not!  :)

I know what you mean about having cold hands. I've gotten to where I wear gloves often now. I never used to need them, but my hands get cold enough that they actually hurt and get stiff ... ummmm, maybe that's just age catching up w/me ... At the rate we are going, maybe your nieces and nephew can go into business making throws for us newly skinny WLS patients ... LOL.

I'm not having too much trouble yet but I have been wearing warmer clothes than usual. It ends up being uncomfortable though because ive been wearing warmer "jammies" while I am awake at night and then if I sleep in them i get night sweats :( I hate waking up feeling scummy.

Boy can I relate to that! I'll be freezing and later I'll wake up with sweats and peel off the jams ... later, I'm freezing again.

This cold weather has been rough on me too.  The first year I still got warmer and cooled off by dressing cooler.  Now, I can wear a long sleeved top, fleece top and winter jacket.  It's so different from what I'm used to. I was sick a few weeks ago and I keep shivering and shaking.  The dr thought I had problems beyond a virus because I couldn't maintain my body temp. Give and take - I feel cold all the time, but i can see and feel ribs and hip bones.  Good trade off in my opinion.

I agree that all things considered the being cold issue is minor when compared with all the benefits of being a normal, healthy weight. I guess I'm just hoping that there aren't any other "issues" that cause the fluctuating body temps ... something I'll have to ask my Dr about.

I came here tonight to post a very similar post Barb, I'm glad you posted it first, cause  now I don't have to wait for replies...LOL. I don't have issues with hot spells, but I am freezing ALL the time. My hands, feet and nose are cold all the time. I have never been cold in  my life!  I understand the loss of insulation, but my coldness started within the first week post-op. I still had the majority of my insulation then. I like Ellen's thoughts on B-12 consumption, but I take my sublingual bcomplex every day without fail. It helps so much in the energy department I never forget it.  A line of thought I have been pondering is caloric intake and heat energy in our bodies. It seems reasonable that since calories are a measurment of heat energy, taking in severly less calories would mean less heat energy on the cellular level. Since our bodies naturally conserve body heat to protect our vital organs it would make sense that our hands, feet and nose would be cold first if it wasn't producing enough heat energy natually from caloric intake.  Hmmm, I don't think I'm educated enough to say if this is really a possibility for part of the reason we become cold all the time, but it sounds good in my own head....LOL.
