My bed needs a seatbelt!

I used to be a middle of the night snacker... I didn't binge, but would go in the kitchen and open the fridge or into the for a bite of something and a swig of milk.  I'm sure I put on quite a few lbs. over the years doing those bites! Twice lately (last night included), I found myself just not able to go to sleep for thoughts of a cheese cracker or something.  I finally got up and had ONE and went right to sleep.  I admit that I wasn't a good girl yesterday and it was one of those days I forgot to eat.  About 2ish yesterday afternoon, I opened a can of soup and put in micro to heat.  Got out some cheese and sesame stix to dip in cheese with the soup.... while it was heating, I came back to my desk and kept working... I got back to that soup about EIGHT last night!  The cheese was still sitting out there on the counter, and I had not eat one morsel all day... I know, NOT GOOD!  It just happens sometimes, and yesterday was "my day" to be a bad girl. When folks who have had surgery that there would be times I'd FORGET TO EAT, I thought that was the most asinine thing I ever heard... forgetting to eat!  But it IS true! But I just wasn't hungry yesterday, so I'm sure that had something to do with me wanting that snack about 2 this morning. I surely don't want to get into THAT old habit and realize RIGHT NOW I have to put the breaks on it.  I don't imagine that one cheese cracker will have any adverse effect, but now that I see this old habit rearing its ugly head, I'm going to nip it in the bud...  thus, perhaps I need a seat belt to strap me in the bed.  LOL Maybe I should invent a "Bed Buckle" for overweight folks to keep 'em strapped in during the night to avoid binges... heck, there's every other contraption out there and folks desparate to lose weight will buy about ANYthing!

My DH needs one of those.  He is terrible for snacking during the night.  Thank God I have never been one to do that (but I made up for it at other times, obviously).  Those bad habits do come sneaking around don't they.  I have noticed that since a week or so before Christmas, I have been wanting to snack in the afternoons.  I need to stop that!!!!  Maybe voicing it here will help!  Have a wonderful day and remember to eat!  Alice

Alice -

You just might NEED that afternoon snack; however, planning it and having it be a healthy snack would be the key. I know that I have an afternoon snack everyday; it helps keep me on the 'straight and narrow' if you know what I mean.

You're probably right Barb.  It's a long time between lunch and when I finally get home and get dinner done.  I usually have a handful of no-salt peanuts, a cheese stick , a spoon of peanut butter, some SF jello/pudding.   So, maybe it's not such a bad habit after all.  It's just that my snacks now are much healthier than they use to be.  Alice

If find that if I dont eat enough during the day, ESPECIALLY at dinner... I will wake up the next day and be STARVING... no matter what I eat during that day I will still be hungry the entire day.  It quickly taught me to stick to my meal plans and make sure I eat every few hours. Sometimes I still dont eat enough dinner and I want to smack myself the next day because I wake up and before I even stumble to the shower I start thinking about breakfast and my tummy is rumbing! cheese and crackers are my enemy! I always said when I die and go to heaven it will be filled with cheese (cheese cheese, cheese cake, cottage cheese.. anything with the word cheese in it! and coke-a-cola! haha

Wendy -

You what's great is that you recognized the behavior and are now taking action to correct it. I know that in my own experience, eating regularly before didn't seem as "important" as it does now. KUDOS!!! I think that making these observations and necessary corrections is what is going to help us not only take off the weight, but keep it off.

RE: the topic of nite time snacking ... it's not my big enemy, but it sure is my husband's, so if you ever get that bed buckle into production, please let me know ...LOL
