Help!
I am 3 weeks out from WLS. I've lost a total of 28 lbs. since my first weigh-in. I have not lost any weight for the last 3 days. Is this normal, this early for a stall?
Also, the nurse called today and said they what me to go to a Gastroenterologist because my liver enzymes are elevated. I went to Dr. K last week and he did mentioned they were elevated, but nothing was said to see a specialist. I was told that they usually are in over weight people and they do go down.
Any input will put my mind at ease!
I am only 2 weeks out but that weight loss is outstanding!! I am not sure about the stall thing but as for the liver enzymes- they are usually elevated in overweight people because the liver is usually "fatty" which causes a release in liver enzymes. Personally I would call the doctor and ask how much more elevated they were related to before and why you need to see a specialist... this will give you peace of mind for sure. Dont talk to the nurse because legally they cannot tell you anything other than the enzymes are elevated... stand up for yourself and ask to speak directly to your surgeon. We all deserve great care and that is not asking to much- they need to give you an explanation!! The specialist is just to make sure that there is nothing past the fatty liver- but I would call the surgeon anyway.
Good luck,
Juliana
Sweetie, your weight loss is phenomenal. You are NOT in a stall! Your body is just taking a breather and revamping for the next weight loss period. When you weigh tonight, you will likely see a decline. But let me ask you something: has it gone up? Didn't think so. When was THAT ever the case? You aren't going to lose or show loss every day. If that were the case, we would all shrink to nothing in no time!
As for the liver profile, I second Juliana's advice. Call to speak with the surgeon and if he is unavailable, then ask for a callback and keep calling them til you get one! In all likelihood, it's probably just part of a protocol of his making that says if liver enzymes stay elevated post op past a certain point, then he has profiles run. I'm sure it's all CYA business as usual. But do let us know what the surgeon said.
