Hi my name is Adrienne and I am almost 10 months post op ( RNY 3/15/07) .  I have lost  right at 100lbs. My question is has anyone had problems with migraines after surgery .. I have had the worst headaches over the last 2-3 weeks , I see streaks of light when I close my eyes and feels like my head is in a vice.. and someone keeps turning it..  I never had them before surgery. I was just wondering if this is common? I also struggling with what to take for them because I was instructed not to take any NSAIDS and nothing else is working..  Any suggestions?  Thanks in Advance  Adrienne Holder  Durham, NC

WOW 100 pounds you are doing great , keep up the great work. Since I have had surgery I have not experenced any headaches at all. I have heard the food we eat can cause these horrible migraines, check with your doctor. good luck

I have had a few headaches since surgery but usually I am very dehydrated.  Tyelenol and plenty of water usually straightens me out fast.

Adrienne, I haven't had any since surgery.  And since you're pretty far out post-op, I might tend to think the HAs are not surgery related since they only started a couple of weeks ago.  You  may want to talk to your GP about them to see if you need some sort of tests.   Did you eat anything "new" or unusual over the holidays that might be causing them?  You also might start a food journal to see if you can pinpoint a food trigger. Could you perhaps need an eye exam?  Glasses, or new glasses?   There are all sorts of things that can cause HAs, some not anything to play around with and waste time getting checked out.

Hello there.  Boy...can I relate with this post!  I have been in the bed basically for the past 2 days.  I have had migraines for the majority of my life.  So I was excited that I haven't had one since surgery...until yesterday.  Since surgery I haven't had a migraine until then.   I was one of those migrane suffers that no migraine meds helped.  The only thing that ever worked for me was 800 mg of Ibuprofen.  But since surgery we aren't suppose to take that....so I am suffering!!  Tylenol for me is like eating a tic tac  !  Does nothing at all.  So tomorrow I plan to call my surgeon!   Good Luck to you.  I really do understand.  I would call your doc also.  They might can give you another suggestion.   Connie
