MO Peeps:

Do any of you have a really good recipe for any type of a layered salad?  Sunday night we are having our Pastor appreciate dinner and we're suppose to bring any type of salad and a dessert.  I was thinking a layered salad would be a good idea.  However, I have never made one.

Thanks in advance for helping me out with this one.  I HATE to try a new dish and take it to a pot luck kinda of thing.  That's what I'm asking for your tried and true recipes.

Debbie D.

P.S.  I know, last month, was Pastor Appreciation Month.  However, the day we were going to have the dinner, our pastor was sick with the flu.  That's why they rescheduled it for this weekend.  Thanks again!

Debbie....My kids love Layered Toco Salad....
I make it in my large baking pan and they spoon it on their plate and eat it with tortilla chips, corn chips or dortios....

I use...
Hambuger meat.....Fried and drained well...You can use toco seasoning if you like
Refried Beans
Shredded Toco Cheese
Lettuce......Shredded
Tomatoes.....Chopped
Onions......Chopped
Black Olives.....Sliced
Sour Cream....LF
Salsa

I start my layers with the refried beans, then layer sour cream, meat, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, black olives, shredded cheese and dizzle with salsa......

We also like adding cucumbers and green peppers....

If you prefer the corn chips they new scoupable ones are great for this....

Thanks for the recipe.  I have a question, do you serve it right away or is okay to refrigerate before you serve it?

Thanks again!

Debbie D,
Here is a layered Salad that I make to take to church suppers.

                                                 Layered Salad

lettuce(1 head)  torn in bite sizes
1/2 cup celery
1/2 cup onion
1/2 cup green, yellow or red pepper
1/2 cup shredded carrots
1/2 cup radishes
10 oz. frozen peas, cooked
4 hard boiled eggs
1 pint miracle whip(I use light)
2 tbsp sugar(I use splenda)
6 slices bacon ( fry until crisp and crumble it)
shredded cheese

Use a large pan  and layer ingredients in the order given.  refrigerate  overnite  I do just as the directions say - the Miracle whip is spread over top.  Do not mix up.then sprinkle splenda over that and put crumbled bacon over that and shredded cheese over that.  Put in refrigerator and it is delicious.  The pan usually comes home empty.  (I have a plastic tupperware rectangle dish with lid that works out perfect.  Enjoy

One question...do you chop or slice the radishes or put them in whole?

Thanks,

Debbie,
I slice the radishes in thin slices and layer on top.  The eggs I also slice in thin slices and layer.  Looks prettier than chopped.  Ma. ke it tomorrow and sit in fridge overnite  It is delicious.  Good eating too.  Any more questions just let me know.  Colette

Debbie...I usually serve it after I get it fixed...But I think it would be fine at room temp for a bit....If you put it in the fridge it would change the texture of the refried beans and the hamburger meat might not tast well cold.....

When looking for a recipe I go to ask.com and type in recipe or what Im looking for and it will bring up lots of places to go see the recipes at....I like www.allrecipes.com and have found alot of good recipes on the kraft and bettycrocker sites too....
