Hello, just thought I would ask a question hoping that someone on here would be able to answer. We live in MO, hubby is in the Army and I was approved for a WLS consult. I am going to the seminar tomorrow afternoon so that I can make the consult appt. But I was wondering if anyone on here had the WLS and also has Hypo thyroid. We were in IA the last 7 yrs (hubbys last duty station) and they wouldnt even consider me because of that medical issue. After 4 yrs they finally have my medication level figured out but I still can not lose weight regardless of what I do. I had looked into this before for about the last 6 yrs and wish I had done it before this diagnosis. Has anyone had the RNY surgery with Hypothyroid. I am going to Dr Hornbostel and have only heard great things. Just was wondering if it was worth my 2 plus hour drive.

Thanks,

M

Dr. Hornbostel isw a saint!  He's one of the best.  I have Tricare through the Air Force (hubby is retired) and it covered everything.  Are you at Ft. Leonard Wood?

Yes we just moved here this summer. I have talked to a few people here and have heard nothing but great things about him. I am hoping that he will be able to help me through this.

I can't answer the hypothyroid question.  But I have several medical concerns and my PCP said, "Dr. Horbostel has done so many cases that he is not likly to turn down someone with a significant medical hystory."  And my PCP was  right, Dr. H took me w/o batting an eye.  My surgery is January 19th.

Hugs,

Deb

I am in the Ft Wood area and am scheduled for surgery on the 6th. I have had thyroid problems in the past but an no longer on meds. I did have an ultrasound of my thyroid on the base as part of my pre-op stuff and have a nodule on my thyroid. It didn't seem to make any difference. I would be glad to talk to you about the approval process with tricare or answer any questions you have. I was referred to Dr Hornbostel and I am glad that's where they sent me. This a great place to learn about what to expect and get answers to most of your questions.Welcome.

Thanks everyone for the reply's. Hubby and I are going to the seminar today, I figure the worst he can tell me is no and I am right back where I began. I will let you know how it goes.  Does anyone know if there is a local support group to attend? I have a friend who is in this area and is looking for a support group, she had her surgery done in Germany while they were stationed there.

Thanks again and enjoy your Sunday,

Mary
