I bought unsalted peanuts to puree into my shakes for a peanut butter flavor.... bad idea??? they said no peanut butter but what about the nuts?  I thought with the fat they have in them that one of these types of shakes a day will be ok? I am also looking for any other ideas for flavorings. typically how long does it take you to sip one of your shakes after surgery? do they stay good while you are sipping? nutti:wave:

hmmmmmm  I would definitely run this by your nutritionist but my take (for what it is worth) would be to nix the idea for several reasons.   Of course this is for post op.  Nuts have alot of oils in them.  Some folks can tolerate oils right out from the git go but others cannot.  For me, it was a definite no no for several months.  Also you are not going to be able to break these puppies down to where you don't get some chunks...  also, some folks can tolerate the small bits and others cannot.  Alot of the times P butter isn't recommended for various reasons.  Most P butters have a goodly amt. of sugar in them... couple that with the oil and you can see where this is going...  although again I will toss in the disclaimer that some CAN tolerate these things whereas others cannot. If you are wanting flavors there are a wealth of options for purchase even at Wally world..  try the Sugar Free DaVinci syrups that you can get in the coffee aisle.  Pretty good stuff if I say so myself.  I am also a fan of my SF Starbucks Vanilla...   My protein supps after surgery were mainly focused on the Grape Mist Isopure liquid.  Tastes like grape koolaid and I never had to worry about it "seperating" or otherwise ...  it was a lifesaver for me...  there are also Profect vials of liquid proteins.  They didn't offer those right after I had my surgery but you can see them hyperlinked on the OH website.  They are a bit pricey but they ARE good... and you get a pretty big bang of protein in just a small portion so that helps out early on ... since you are so limited with your intake right after surgery! Hope that this helps you out! Elizabeth ----->

ty for the good post op advice. I will put those suggestions on my list of things to look for and try. but I just started my pre-op diet and the peanuts did puree really well no chunks at all. but I sure will ask the NUT about it tomorrow night. thanks for getting right back to me! nutti:wave:
