Struggling

I am on day 5 of  the liquid diet (10 days till surgery, WOO HOO) but I am really feeling miserable.  I keep reading posts about how some people wern't hungry and other things!  I know it is tough, but I can not seem to get over feeling nausea (sp?) all the time.  I have been getting about 60g of protein in a day with my shakes, but they are all making me sick.  I have tried 6 or 7 different kinds and for some reason they all make me sick.  Then I have been having tons of SF popsicles and SF Jello and broth but I am still so hungry that my stomache is constantly growling and cramping! I have also been taking my 4ozpowerade/4oz water 3 times a day!  I know this is going to be so worth it but if anyone can help me not feel so bad now, I would really appreciate it!!! You all inspire me with what you have acheived!!! Thanks, Beth

Beth... Hang in there...  I know it is tough right now but don't give up.   I will be the FIRST one to tell you that it took me like FOREVER to find a protein shake that I could tolerate either PREOP or POSTOP.  Not only do I have really weird taste issues...but my texture issues are even worse.  If it is not smooth as silk with NO chalkiness or lumpiness then don't even try it with me.  The only two that I have been able to tolerate are Unjury (go to unjury.com) or the Isopure products.  Make sure that if you try the Isopure that you get the low carb or zero carb variety ( I prefer low carb as it tastes better)...   alot of folks swear by the one product that they buy locally at Food4Less but I cannot tolerate it.  Neither does my sweetie.....  so we have two huge cannisters of it sitting on the pantry shelf.   Another thing to consider.  You are hitting the SF stuff...  did you know that some folks are EXTREMELY sensitive to the sugar alcohols and other types of alternative sweeteners that these contain?  It is enough to really upset the old digestive tract.  Also note that you are just putting in liquids... liquids in...and more often than not, liquids out.  Your system might not be liking it too much...... I know that this won't necessarily make you feel better but do know that I am thinking of you and sending you all sorts of positive thoughts and prayers!!!! Elizabeth----------->

Thanks for the positive advice, I ordered some tasteless stuff from Unjury and I am HOPING that my body will take that!!  I had not thought about the SF items and that they could not be helping either! Your thoughts and prayers really do mean a lot to me!  My husband has been really supportive but he just does not know what I am going through and I just feel so alone and it helps to hears from others who are/or have gone throught this :)

Thanks,

Beth

Beth....wanted to drop a line to say howdy....Hang in there sweetie it's not much longer now......Monday will be one week post op for me and I know what you are going thru with that crazy ole liquid diet!!! I had to be on the liquid protien diet for like 3 months post op because I had to loose 50# before surgery.....Man did it suck!!  But I pushed and pushed and pushed till I finally made it..... Wanted to tell you a few things I tried on mine from some suggestions friends gave me....try sipping on some juice from home cooked beans or off of soup you have made for the family!!! And change with flavor like that helps sooo much... Is it the taste of the protein that makes you sick or what??? I used the protien mix from wal mart and got the vanilla flavor and then flavored it with dannons fit and lite yogurt or sf instan pudding mix....They have alot of flavors to choose from and it makes it alot more enjoyable to drink them.....My favs are pisatchio and butterscotch and the blackberry yogurt mmmmm.... Hope this helps ya out some...I will be praying for you and wishing you the best!!! God Bless....HUGS...Tammy H.

Thanks for the message Tammy!!  I am glad you are home and doing so well!!  I would love to put some powder in pudding, but my doctor's diet only allows SF Jello, SF popsicles, broth, SF liquids and of course the protein drink!!  I think all the doctors have different diets, because I have read so many different one's on here!!! You are my hero for doing this for 3 months!!!!  I think it is the texture, smell and taste of the protein drink that gets me!!  I did try the broth from chicken noodle soup today, someone on here suggested that and it really did taste good!!  I appreciate the good wishes and prayers, it is just nice knowing other people are going through the same thing!!!

Thanks again,

Beth

HI Beth, I found that if I drank my protein shakes too fast, I would become nauseated. I talked to the dietician and she suggested splitting the protein drink serving in half and drinking the other half later. That seemed to help my nausea subside some. I still have a little nausea but it is not as severe. I found that the Isopure fruit flavored drinks made it worse. I have always liked chocolate milk, and I find I do better with the chocolate shake mix. I have a small blender that I can use to make the shakes more smooth. If they are not sweet enough I can add a packet of splenda. I found a shake that I really like called Inthinity MetaFuel. It tastes the best to me. Unfortunately it is a little high for my pocket book so I have to stick with the cheaper ones from Wal-Mart and the such. I use milk instead of water (skim or 1%). I wish you the best and I know you can do it. I have, and if I can anyone can.  Elisa
