I was doing research today when I came across the most amazing piece of information!!  There is currently a Bill introduced in the Missouri Senate that would REQUIRE isurance companies to provide treatment for morbid obesity!  If my research is correct the Bill is currently in Committee and has not yet been made a Law.  I immediately wrote an email to the Senator in charge of the Bill and ask that all my fellow OH'ers do the same Pre-op, post-op, it doesnt matter this would save many lives and help soooo many peple out!!!    This is the link to the Bill and I will try to give the link to the Senator in charge of the Bill.  It is called SB97.     Thanks to all,  Rebecca www.senate.mo.gov/07info/bills/sb97.htm The Senator is Rita Heard Days, District 14. www.senate.mo.gov/07info/members/mem14.htm Please everyone write or call this Senator.

Thanks for providing the link for the bill...  unfortunately the Missouri Senate has been tossing this very same bill around for a long long time... and wonder of all wonders.  It never seems to get passed...  although the fact that they ARE talking about it is at least pretty darn awesome.   Even though I don't like it, the fact is that the mainstream population still hasn't come to grips fully with the full scope of the issues of battling obesity.  Things are slowly starting to change and opinions and ideas are slowly coming about but there is still an uphill battle being waged.   We can only hope, pray and dream of the day when medical coverage will finally be afforded to every person who so desperately needs it without have to fight tooth and nail for it. Thanks for bringing this back to the forefront... Elizabeth---->

Hi thanks for reponding to my post.  I agree that most people still think that we want to be obese and that we are just lazy.  NOTHING could be farther from the truth!  Many, many of us on this and other sites are actively fighting with our insurance companies to achieve wls.  I personally believe that it is criminal that insurance companies and employers are allowed to discriminate against morbidly obese employees.  If an insuance company were to have an exclusion against treatment for cancer, or any other life threatening illness the outcry would be deafening.  We at OH just need to band together and fight this injustice.  I hope and pray that the legislature will respond to the support of this Bill and not bow down to the insurance companies.
