Well I really hate to come in here and even tell this story.. but here it goes. I went for my 1 week Post Op appointment today. I joked all the way to the doctors office to my husband laughingly I would probably be the ONE person who gained like 5 pounds one week out.. he laughed at me and said Impossible Denise! So.. I get to the office. I told my hubby and daughter to just stay in the waiting room because the rooms were too crowded for all of us ( which was a lie) I just didn't want them to see my failure before I had a chance to adjust from it, before sharing the news. They call me back and I step on my most hated thing in the world.. THE SCALE! I have only lost 2 pound.. TWO! I felt this sense of overwhelming depression come over me. I immediately felt like a failure again..even though I hadn't done anything wrong. The nurse takes me back and I look at her.. in shock.. and ask.. what did I do wrong.. Who has a TWO pound loss after taking in ONLY CLEAR LIQUIDS for a week?? She said.. Don't worry.. this is normal..you're still retaining liquids and we don't know how much IV fluids they gave you in the hospital..and how you reacted to all that.. Still.. I'm disgusted. Then Dr. H comes in.. and i asked.. Doc.. How can I be doing this right when I only lost TWO pounds? He said.. Denise.. It's ok.. We gave you 20 pounds of Iv fluids in the hospital.. you're still retaining liquids... you're still a little gassy..you're still a little swollen..be patient.. it will come off.. the surgery works.. Trust me. I felt better but still a little down because I was hoping for at least 10 pounds. I go back in a month. I got upgraded to FOOD...what I call food anyway..stuff I can't see through. Oatmeal..cream of wheat.. pudding..yogurt..instant breakfast.. cottage cheese.. it's wonderful. I went straight to walmart in Sedalia and bought groceries and included all my new WONDERFUL foods :). After Hubby and my girl ate at McDonalds..while I drank diet Green Tea... I came home put away all my new Yummies and made me Sugar Free Brown Sugar and Maple Oatmeal... Enjoyed my 3 bites and felt BETTER~!  I'm just curious how you guys did one week out.. because I know others have done better than me.. Just would like to see some comparissons.. even if you lost more please post it.. for my own benefit to see where I am.. and where I need to keep heading.  "Good things come to those who wait..I just need to wait a little longer  Denise

Denise: I also was a bit disappointed in my 1-week checkup weight loss.   In the week after surgery I only lost 5 lbs.,   and I didn't cheat at all.    .....And I walked 3 times/day.     But, someone also mentioned to me about all of the fluids that I received while in the hospital.....so that made me feel better.      My surgery was on 5/29.    I did notice  my pants feel a little looser on me now though.     I'll keep my protein shake in the a.m. for breakfast.....I've heard weight loss is improved if your body is getting its' protein needs met.    Let's hope.   Cuz the shakes still aren't my favorite thing....even though I do doctor them up. Well that's my input.   Anyone else? Beca

I just had my one week today for my LapBand and had my staples removed. I'm down 18 pounds. I'm sure it's a one time shot, LOL.

Dear Denise.... Congrats on the 2# that will NEVER be back-right? I felt your horror reading your story...I went to my one week check up-and after hearing some lose up to 20# that week-I had only lost 5#, but trust me-it will start coming off easier by the 3 month check up-you will be amazed~ I also remembered thinking I would be the FIRST person in history to have this surgery NOT WORK for them-its normal.....its ok!!!  Good luck and congrats. I lost 6 lbs my first week, 13 my first month.  It took me a year to finally lose 100 lbs, and nearly 3 years to lose 126 lbs (I had lost more than that, but put some back on).  Also, I began as a heavy weight. Sometimes weight loss is slower, but it does come off.  You may not get to "skinny" without many years of hard work, but that initial weight loss the first year is often enough to give you a better quality of life.  I still shop at the "Fat Lady's Store," but I can walk for extended periods of time, my blood pressure is normal, and I can do pretty much everything that anyone else can (except run, maybe...no one wants to see that!).   The point is, even if your weight loss doesn't wind up being the astounding size 6 of your dreams (okay, my dreams), you've done a great thing for your health.  It takes time, and eventually, a lot of effort.  But it is SOOOO worth it.  Hang in there... and celebrate the fact that the weight is not piling on! Cheers! Pamela
